Default 1960 Continental kit

Anyone have a pic of a 1960 with a FACTORY continental kit?

I don't think that GM offered one.

According to a list of options I saw they did. I also saw a photo of a guy with the Canadian version and he had one but it's the style with the stock bumper that is just extended out. That style in the Chevy world is aftermarket, not original. So I was wondering if they ever made any that use the better looking 3 piece bumper that doesn't use extentions. Can't say that I ever saw one in real life, but then I wasn't looking at Pontiacs either.

Especially wagons with continental kits.

Can you say "Johnny Doo-Wop?"

This one is what I believe to be aftermarket kit. I was looking for a pic of one that may actually be a factory set up. I don't care at all for this one with the extended stock bumper, looks out of place.

Where did you see the list of options that showed it?

Actually, I have a 60 parts book supplement that shows all the 60 accessories. I'll look to see what it shows.

This: http://www.oldride.com/library/1960_..._catalina.html
and NADA lists it as an option for both Bonne and Cat, adds 5%

I wouldn't trust that source; it's a bunch of information lifted from various sources and compiled into one, as if to appear as factory-issued factual data. Not so.

Possibly, but with NADA listing it, it may have been an option. Waiting for SteveP's findings.

The Pontiac Master Parts Catalog (MPC) has an Accessory section that lists available accessories for the current year and a few prior years. The 1960 MPC Accessory section does not list the Continental kit. It does list "SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL COVER" which I suspect is a cover for the spare tire inside the trunk.

Earlier MPC Accessory Sections (see 1958 and 1956) do show a Continental kit, listed as "SPARE TIRE CARRIER KIT, Continental"

Based on those observations, it would appear that 1958 was the last year that Pontiac offered a Continental kit.

Probably explains why I've never seen one and can't find any pic's. Thanks.

Ditto on Safari Larry's response.

I also had Doug Bendle from the 60 Pontiac registry decode my VIN and he sent me a sheet to fill out with all possible options listed and there was no mention of a Continental kit.

You may want to contact Doug. He is "the" 60 expert. He lives in Tennessee.

Thank God!

Those fugly "Johnny Doo Wop" things have no business on any post-1958 Pontiac.

I like them, but I'm Sicilian and that would explain why I do.

Hey Steve, isn't your Bonne a Tri power? I bought a orig 60 air cleaner and intake (3x2). The price was right, it seemed and I like those "do-wop" looking things. I get lazy though and sometimes don't want to do all the install stuff. I'm considering installing the 3x2 with dummy end carbs, just keep it on it's current 2 bbl.

Yes, my car is a factory 3x2 car. I'd put it on if I were you!
