1972 Lemans Sport Convertible
I have stored this car for the past 15 years, thinking each year this would be the one I would get it done. It hasn't happened yet. I'm considering selling it, but I have no idea what it's worth. It needs full restoration. It's all original, including the 400 motor. The body is in decent shape, but will need work, the engine is mostly disassembled. The car is white on white with the camel interior. It can be rolled out. This is the GTO clone that Lemans built for the GTO enthusiast who wanted a convertible. From what I understand, 1972 is the only year Lemans did this making this a unique car.
I would appreciate any feedback you can give me. |

Pictures coming
I have a couple of busy days ahead of me, but will try to get pictures of it soon. It does have the endura front end, scooped hood, vented fenders, all trim and metal decals(400) and even have the original glass that was in the old top. I can tell you, it's not much to look at in it's current condition (most of the trim is off), but I will try to figure out how to post them to this site. If you are interested, e-mail me at acemkt@gmail.com and I will send them to you direct.

I just sold mine, which was a documented 400/4 speed, Cardinal Red, GT fully numbers matching, but getting a little tired mechanically. I struggled to get $10k for it, even though it had a lot of options, excellent interior and paint, etc. It did not have the Endura nose, which really hurts the value on these.

As a restoration project every good buyer will need to see every inch of the car and decode all parts to determine it's worth AFTER restored.
Take that estimated worth, subtract the cost of the restoration = highest project car value. If the car could bring ~15-18k restored to cruise night quality, subtract the minimum 10k restoration cost = 5-8k asking price for the project. Just an example. |

Price
I'ts ironic you should ask. I was considering posting it on ebay with a minimum base of $3,500 and see what happens. Anything less than that and I will simply keep it. Its been sitting here for 15 years...it's starting to grow on me.

I'll bid at that price, but I won't keep it white if I get it.
Are the floors/trunk good?

Overall it is very solid. There are a couple of spots near the rear wheel well, but the pontiac guys here in west michigan have all said it's a very restorable car.

About 3-4 years ago I sold my 71 Lemans Sport convertible. It was a documented Lemans Sport (you could tell by the VIN in 1971) and since it was a ragtop it was one of about 2800 made. It was not an endura bumper car. It was a numbers matching 400, T-400 car. I removed the T-400 and correctly installed an M-21 with a 4 speed console, but I saved the correct numbers matching T-400.
The car was solid with a repaint that shined nicely. It had P/S and P-disc brakes. It was blue with a blue gut and white ragtop. I bought it for $5000.00 and put around $2500-$3000.00 into it. I listed it on ebay with a reserve of $10,000 and it hit $9600.00 when the auction ended. I listed it a second time with a reserve of $9500.00 and it sold for $9750.00. Honestly I thought that for the condition and options of the car it should have sold for more. If it was a GTO it probably would have gone for over $20,000.00. I saw it about 4 months later at the Atlantic City classic car show & auction and it had sold for $11,000.00 The cars have some value but as stated above will just never bring GTO type money. Good luck!

I was at a farm type auction last summer with a full day of auction, parts, and about 20 "classic" cars. Some old guy was selling all his stuff and was apparently well known among the local farm folks as this guy with all these "special cars." I met him and some of his people and it was like a modern day boss Hogg crew from the Dukes of Hazard. (some little town NW of Fremont NE)....anyway a very basic driver 72 lemans, chrome bumper convertible, not restored in anyway went for 25k (I would have pegged it at no more then 7k). These people were falling over themselves over-bidding on cars. I was looking at the lemans and a 94 t-top camaro with 80k miles. The camaro went for 7k (maybe a 4k car, a V6!). A nice, but not show-car 34 or so Ford went for 50k. It was crazy. He had about 20 cars, and the ones I knew anything about went for insanly high prices. So never say never...
