Has anyone had a problem with a 67 car with rear steering, and a 71 400 block and oil pan hitting on the cross member? The motor mounts are new... old pan fits but rusted out. Tried 2 new pans but they are too wide and won't fit in the notch of the crossmember. The pan bottoms out before it hits the mounts. the block has 3 holes in it. Does the motor need different type of mounts?
I have lifted this block sooo many times now! Any help is appreciated. ![]() |

Yeah they are tough I am having the same issue with a canton pan on my 69. The only thing I think that will help is to remove the engine and make a bigger notch.

Good news after replacing the motor mounts (napa bk 602-1157) and adding a 1/8 shim on the drivers side I can slide a gasket width under the oil pan!

I had the same deal with mine when I put on the Canton pan. I ended up putting a small dent in the oil pan and a big dent in the crossmember to get some clearance.

I ran into same problem on a 67 I did for someone last year.
I ended up shimming the motor mounts for pan clearance on a stock pan. I think its the cheapy mounts that are the problem. I also had a problem with the clutch linkage and the ball that mounts on block. I would have loved to have it slid over towards passenger side another 1/2" but it wouldnt go. |
