I have a very hard to find 1973 Trans Am, 455 SD automatic, red orange,. Under 40k miles, I have all original paperwork, including reciepts of when my father bought it brand new from Tacoma Pontiac in 73', it has been owned by my dad and his friend only, until I recieved it. Needs some work and some basic TLC, but I know what I have so dont try to low ball me. There were only 180 of these made with the 3 speed auto. With little investment this car could be a show/race winner again! Serious buyers only, Dont waste my time please. I do not want to part with it, but life presents unfortunate circumstances. I provided a SAMPLE picture (I do not have pics yet) and a couple links for a little more background of the car. Contact me and we can talk.
Thanks
$25,000 OBO

Weren't there some SD 455 Formula Firebirds in 73 as well. If my fleeting memory serves me, a buddy of mine back in the 80's has one....It was a 4 speed muncie rock crusher though. OR maybe it was an auto. Another guy I worked with had a 71 1/2 455 HO TA that was the 4 speed. MAN getting older STINKS!!! Either way this guy's car COULD be a nice find.

Yes, you are right. Rick Mahoney has a very nice one. I think there were only 43 SD firebirds, I might be off on that number.

That sounds about right, he said there were 50 or less made. It was amazing the difference between the 2 cars performance wise. Though they are both 455's, the SD and the HO were very different. OK hijack over..

Are those the photos of the car? The link you provided doesn't even have those on there. Just wondering if you are the guy selling the car?

No, I'm not the guy selling the car. And I have never seen this car before. I snagged those pics off of the Craiglists link. Whenever I come across an interesting car, I try to post the words and pictures from the Craigslist ad so that we (as a PY community) have it documented. I do this so that once the Craiglist ad is expired we will still be able to see the ad and pictures in this Forum.

Congrats on the car purchase. Did you get it for his asking price or have to pay more, seeing as he had so many people interested in it? Please post some photos when you get a chance and once again, congrats!!!!!!

This SD was purchased from Hawkins Pontiac in Tacoma Wa. July 6, 1973 for 5,845.00 by Robert L. Satiacum, son of Bob Satiacum Chief of Puyallup Tribe. Bob was the Rosa Parks of Native Americans for standing up for the rights of Indians. He was arrested numerous times for fishing without a license and holding Fish Inns with celebritys such as Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, Dick Gregory, etc.

1974 Judge Boldt decision, came down, that basically said the US had to honor treaties that entitled Natives to half of all fish caught. Because of this Satiacum family was a target of the Feds and the FBI.

Robert l. was followed many a times by the feds in his SD and their is lots of speculation about him losing his tale. In fact his personal plate was RABBIT!

Getting back to the history of the car I have a email from a former employee of Hawkins Pontiac. He said he was working there in 73 when Robert L. and his brother came into the dealership and bought two new TAs. The SD car and a Brewester green one. The green one was customized and painted black, the SD car was the only one to go thru this dealership and was perfect already. A few days later the green TA was rolled and totaled! I have a receipt for 100.00 on a deposit from the Pontiac garage on July 10, for installing a roll bar which is still in the car. The last time the former employee seen the car was early Sept 1973, the rear 1/4 was crunched. I have the accident report July 28, lost it going thru a intersection, spun out of control and hit a 1969 Javelin. Next is the Pontiac garage doing bearing, rings, and timing chain on it at 12,767 miles, right after the warranty had expired. That did not last too long, in Dec 75 Cope bros did a complete rebuilt with new crank, rods, cam, rings, totaled 890.63.

Fast forward ten years the Satiacums are having a on going battle was the Feds and Wa. St. about selling cigs. without sales tax on the reservation. They evenually lose and all personal assets are seized. Bob Sr. splits to Canada and Robert L. puts his SD in his friends name. He takes into Midas and has new exhaust on it Jan. 13 1984. miles 30,585. On Sept. 27 1990 he brings it back in to Midas for warranty replacement on mufflers, miles 36,222. Robert L drove the car very little after his family became such a target. He decided to keep a lower profile.

In 1999 Robert L passed away with the car still in his friends name. Some time after that, his friend gets drunk, blacks out and backs into a pole doing 20 to 25 mph and put a crease in the oil pan so it starts leaking and smashes the rear of the car pretty hard! 37,475 and then it sits in a garage until Justin Satiacum son of Robert is given the car back. 03-26-09.

Justin has plans to fix it up, hires some traveling homemade body guys you know who I am talking about! They make the car look even worse than it is, Two inch bondo, alum. tape, splatter paint, covered up a rusty trunk floor. Remenber when the car was brand new and the 1/4 got crunched, well it most of started leaking right after that accident. The car needs a rear tail panel, trunk floor from rust and the rest of the parts from the accident, deck lid, bumper, spoiler, etc. But the rest of the car appears to rust free, vin coded block, missing only dist and SD carb. Everything works including am fm radio, 8 track, wipers, key buzzer, gauges, etc. of course no turn signals. Picts will follow after I strip of the garbage in the rear. I love the smell of a low mile old Pontiac! I wish this car could talk it would have way more stories that I have researched!

Justin puts the car on Craigs list for 25k or best offer, no phone numbers on May 26th at 1 am in the morning. On 27th I am checking out PY and see the picts with a license number. I am a WA. ST. dealer and have access to the state data base, since it seemed like fraud, I checked on the plate. If it was ,I was going to warn fellow PY ers. Satiacums are pretty well known in this area because of the dozens of articles in the papers. Plate came back as Justin Satiacum reg. and legal, so the add said it was his dads car, it all started to make some sense, so I called 411 and got his phone number at 11pm that night. He answered the phone told me about 50 emails about wire tranfers, cashiers checks, higher offers, etc. didn't trust all this crapp. I told him I was real with no drama and had cash, 1:30 am after checking out paper work and block numbers I own it. We hit it off ,the rest is history. Very nice young guy, given what his family has been thru, I understand.
