Default Where to Buy 1/2" Stainless Fuel Line???

I've searched all over, at Summit, Jegs, local, etc. and can only find Stainless Steel tubing for my fuel lines up to 3/8" at max. I'm looking for a 20'ish ft roll of .5" of SS tubing and can only find aluminum and copper. McMaster Carr looks like they have a 50' roll of .5", though that's a bit much for my needs, and I can't find anything else in .5" over 10ft long on their site. Anyone have a source for .5" SS tubing in a 20'ish ft roll? Thanks much!

20' coil of 1/2" stainless tubing for $72.00 @ Inline tube.

Part no. is #CL-1/2.

That what you had in mind?

Dont like Inline tube?

Could try calling classic tube, they sell straight lengths by the foot up to 20' lengths.

They charge 40¢ per inch (.40 x 12 = 4.80 / 4.80 x 20 = $96.00 for 20').

For some odd reason they dont list coils of 1/2 ss tubing???

Fine lines probably has the stuff too,but I dunno for sure.

Anyhow,I digress.

HTH.

1/2 is pretty big - inline tube also sells 7/16" and the can reduce the end down to 3/8" or you can do the 1/2" it come in a 6 foot box with 2 shipping bends - onlt available in stainless - like posted $72.00 for 20' www.inlinetube.com or here is the link http://www.inlinetube.com/Straight%2...h/straight.htm

Any industrial instrumentation/electrical shop that deals with oil/gas, food processing, petro-chemical, etc. will have 20' sticks of 1/2''.

You can try swagelok, parker, ags, hylok, gyrolok.

I am an instrument tech, i use the stuff all the time.

I would recomend you use straight sticks, the coiled stuff does not look near as good when you are done.

I have 1/2'' S.S. feed and return on my car.

Where i used to work i think they sold it for $1-$1.5CAD/ft.

We use the 1/2" stainless straight stuff at Ford too. If you go that way buy a quality 1/2" tube bender as the stuff cannot easily be bent otherwise, (at least in the wall thickness we use).

Tom, what thickness do you use? 0.035, 0.049, .065? and what do you use the tubing for?

.035 is automotive spec anything thicker the bending will be near impossible - 1/2" is pretty big to bend by hand or with hand tools.

Bending is far from impossible, you just need good benders.

I have bent all common sizes 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4'', in thickness from .035 up to .065.

You definatly have to do alittle work with anything over .035 but its not that bad unless you are doing 700 feet a day, that sucks!

I would not recommend bending 1/2'' by hand at all.

These are some good ones with rollers but i dont like the movable lock on the backside:

http://www.swagelok.com/search/produ...?part=MS-HTB-8

These are the standard around here, no rollers but the stationary holder on the back is much more friendly:

X2 on getting a good bender, but I found one like posted above at harbor freight for less than $20 and it worked like a champ. I also had to source a local industrial shop to get the 1/2 SS and it still took several calls, 20 ft was about $60.

Do you really even WANT to use stainless for your fuel line? Why not steel?

Stainless looks much nicer and does not corrode under normal circumstances.

I honestly have never seen 1/2'' steel tubing, i have seen every other kind of material but not steel. Not sure why?

Doesn't fuel corrode stainless? And mild steel, that's what the factory uses, correct?

Socrates,

You can also get Inline tube to bend it for you if you are putting it in the stock location. I had Inline tube provide me the stock fuel line in stainless (1/2 inch in lieu of 3/8) and bent for the stock location. It fit great.

What do you guys using 1/2" do for the connections to the flex lines?

I was not able to flare my 3/8" stainless with a hand tool, darn near impossible I would imagine without a hydraulic flaring tool. I may move up to 1/2" when I add nitrous and the 1/2 pick-up from RobbMC.

I do not use flare connections. Industrial compression fittings.

Pardon my ignorance, but they all say 1/2" tube OD, not ID. I assumed 1/2" tube meant the ID was .5". Do you have to deduct the wall thickness? If I buy AN flex lines compatible with alcohol, I would have a 1/2" ID hose, and I'd need an AN to NPT union to adapt to the compression fitting?

Tubing is measured by OD, piping is measured by ID.

1/2'' tubing is 1/2''OD.

Yes for the adapter. Just remember that tubing will flow better than the same size hose (less friction for tubing). Therefore, 1/2''OD tubing will flow as good or better than 1/2'' ID hose provided the restrictions are kept to a minimum.

The proper union will go from AN to compression end, skip the NPT in between if you dont need it.

This is what you are looking for i think? I dont recall the actual spec for AN ends.
