Default 68 4 speed hole...need a little help

Hi Folks,

I'm asking for a BIG favor here. I'm in the process of changing my 68 GTO over from an auto to a 4 speed. And I'd like to make the shifter cutout in the hump as close to the factory cutout as possible. If anyone has a car apart and can give me dimenstions with reference points, or a template, I'd be eternally grateful!

Dan

Here's a good unmolested pic of it - I don't have dimensions handy, but if you have the shifter hump already it would make an excellent guide as there's really only 1 place it fits right. I can go take measurements a little later if nobody else has yet. (currently working)

Thanks Webfoot! Damn, is that really the size of the factory hole? I wasn't expecting that.

Yep, matches up to my factory shifter hump screw holes perfectly.

OK...cool. So put the hump in place, and just cut around the inside edge of the flange....I think....

I'll give you some general measurements on how far back to set it - other than that it should be pretty simple.

I'm doing this soon too. Thanks for the pic Jeremy!

The hump is held in by sheet metal screws and not-welded in, right?

Correct. Looks like they are 1/4" by 3/4" long with a hex head and self-tapping. Takes 6.

For some reason the '69 4-spd factory floor cutout is slightly different.

I think I got my measurements last night from 6 7/8" from the hump to the floor seam and then 6 3/4" at the bottom of the curve. I will double check though as I forgot to bring a pad with me.
