That's funny, they say it's due to the current economy and the fact they have'nt raised their fees in a decade...

Naaahhh dont believe that, they're desperate, they're losing too many racers to other orginizations (10.5/outlaw),the car counts at National events are dropping,as is spectator attendance, they're TV revenue is vanishing, sponsors are bailing too, they're a sinking ship and they're handing out lead lifevests and acting like they're doing their racers a favor.

Yeah, were currently screwing things up so bad that now were gonna hafta put an even greater portion of the burden of carrying this sanctioning body's operation squarely on the backs of the sportsman racers right at the precise moment when they can least afford to carry more of the burden.

And in return the racers get nothing more than what they already were recieving, which is'nt saying much in the NHRA's favor.

They dont have a clue!

It's a damn shame too.

I know our local track here in Salt Lake moved to IHRA after being an NHRA track for over a decade. The track folks wouldn't tell anybody the exact reasoning behind the decision to move but I think one could figure it out. I can see the economy effecting racer entries as a large majority of the sportman class racers do this out of pocket. As for the spectators Im sure the "fun money" is now used as living money. NHRA is trying to force the racers to make up for the declining revenue. If they had any intelligence they would realize if they chase away the racers, they have no cars. No cars means no spectators. And from there it all goes away.

Raising my licensing fees $60 pisses me off. I get a magazine once a week, sometimes twice a week that I don't even read but once in a blue moon. How about this...put the magazine out once a month and save a ton on paper, printing, and postage fees! Or better yet let us pay a different licensing fee without the subscription.

Ok rant done.

It is no joke trying to fund a race car and the paypack really sucks. So they stick it to hobby racers again. I will find a way/place to race no matter NHRA or IHRA. It is really the only hobby I have. Jack, do you notice any difference in Salt Lake now that IHRA sanctions your track? Good or bad.

Fast-The only difference I would see is the chassis cert requirement is now 9.50. Licensing is still 9.99. We had a drivers meeting in March that the IHRA people attended and from what I can see IHRA is a lot more racer friendly. Granted these folks may or may not have been just telling us what we wanted to hear but it does sound like they are not on a control trip like NHRA is. They accepted all of our current licensing, chassis certs and car numbers. We also are a track that now hosts the IHRA Nitro Jam. All in all the issues with our track lies in managment but the switch can only be a good thing for us.

Chassis certs is at 9.00 on a full bodied car in IHRA.
I figured running nines IHRA will save 400 over 3 years. Will be more now with the NHRA increase in costs.
IHRA pays a cash prize to the top 2 points winners in the Summit Super Series. NHRA doesn't give a thing.
There is alot of pluses to the IHRA IMO over the NHRA.

Accurate comments....

I've been to the Spring Ntls every yr the last 6-7. This year was the most hum-drum to date. Fewer cars for sure, in all classes. Sponsorships definately down. Usually there are companies like Gillette, Schick, etc. FULL THROTTLE passing out free product after the races, not this year...........Definately wasn't as "electric" as yrs past.

Several yrs back when you had two Skoal FCs, Brut (with the scented fuel), Scelzi........Fuller........Head.....Troxel, bunch of CSK FCs It felt "flat" this year, all around, in pits, stands and in the parking lot BBQing.

They raised ticket prices for "less" of a show in my opinion. Raising racer fees........just doesn't make sense. They'll turn away racers and fans.....fanning a fire, then what will they have left.

If TV money is down, and they start losing at the track too.........the show won't go on for too long.

nhra says they are for racers, that is just not true, they are for money big money and that is all it has been this way for a long time, i think they have gone out of their way for several years to put the screws to small racers! i have not raced at a nhra event since 1994 and god willing will never race another, they pissed me off that bad!

Exactly! I could care less about the magazine!

Heck I've gone from 50 hours of work a week, down to 45, and now 36! Bills are hard enought to pay let alone racing. Now Milan Mi. changed from IHRA to NHRA like Norwalk. They both better take my IHRA licence.

This is my life. I am a pricing manager for a fortune 350 company. The economy is killing everyone from the consumer to business. We are losing customers hand over fist; so, what do we do? Raise prices. Then we lose more customers and then what do we do? Raise Prices. This has been going on for a few years now and believe it or not most companies are in the same mindset. There is a lag in supply and demand; therefore, you will make more money in the near term when you raise prices. The issue is the long term impacts of price hikes do not outwiegh the short term profits (especially management incentives). If your executives are compensated on the quarter or the year; they will raise prices everytime to get their bonuses. The price lever is the easiest to pull.

U don't get people to race by raising the prices u lower them.. easier to make a million dollars charging a dollar then charging ten!! etc... I am getting pissed at NHRA. AND ESPN!! I am watching Nhra Qualifying and cause stupid soccer is coming on!! they cut away!! big deal!!!

My chassis cert and license will expire without renewal, as well as the worthless "membership"...IE, ND subscription that I don't have time to read anyway.

I think this shows that they are really in trouble and are milking this cow to death.. They will be sold before this year is over, lets hope the new owners are Racers... Also lets hope they live on this Planet !!!
They should start be cutting the top salaries in half, they are sinking like rock... Check the entries at the Nationals down over 50% and they are raising prices, what a joke ... IHRA, should really pickup many racers this year, its a much better deal... Time will tell...(Dave..1033/stock)

We have 3 tracks within the Cincinnati area. 2 of them are now NHRA and one is an outlaw/non-sanctioned track. One of the NHRA track had just recently switched from IHRA but I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them switch back. Out of the 3, the outlaw track probably pulls as many cars or damn near close to what both the other 2 tracks combined on a regular program night. The outlaw track plan on getting an IHRA sanction and that is the standards they tech to but they got the idea right, Reasonable entry (cheapest of the 3) with excellent payout. That is why they keeping getting the car counts and even some of the regulars from one of the other tracks that races at the same time.
