Radiator Fan Clutch
Probably a stupid question (or stupid person), but I am getting a squeak from my clutched radiator fan audible at idle on my '65 GTO clone. It either dissipates or disappears when I bring the rpms up past 1000. Is there something I can do for that, or do I need to replace it? Thanks in advance.

I'm not too sure how the fan clutch could squeak. The unit has sealed bearings and is full of silicone - my money would be on a fan belt. I would think that if it somehow were the clutch, the squeak would only increase with engine speed. Probably time for a new belt anyway, and it is much cheaper than replacing the fan clutch. If the new belt doesn't help, at least you will have a new belt to go along with the clutch you will have to buy.

Makes sense. Thanks for the help. I won't be home for months, so it isn't pressing.

While youre at it, spin the fan by hand. If it turns more than once on its own, you might need the clutch.

Take a piece of garden hose that is about 3 feet long. Put one end to your ear and place the other end near various parts of the engine while the engine is running. The garden hose acts as a surprisingly good stethoscope. That is the way I isolated the bearing noise that was actually coming from my alternator bearing.
Let us know what you find out.
