Default 68-69 GTO Console Lid...Is this how yours looks?

I bought this repro console lid, and the contour doesn't even come close to looking right. Were the originals contoured like this? The repro is a big hunk of rubber, so I'm thinking of shaving the contour flat so it fits good against the console. Has anyone else had this problem?...It looks like this lid will require some modifications to get it to look half way decent.

No, my original lid fits snugly against the top of the console. Can you possibly bend this thing to make it lay better?

Are there any better reproductions out there? Or can you find an original lid and have it recovered?

Out of curiosity, where did you buy it?

Yeah, I bought mine from Ames too...Mine wouldn't even open all the way. It chaffed against the console when I opened it half way....Had to do some mods on the side where the hinge is. I don't have the console box installed yet, but that shouldn't make a difference, right? I'm stumped on this one.

Man, that looks like crap. Send the supplier a picture and politely tell them to check the next one for straightness before they send it to you.

Angry Lid is a real piece of junk ...

I bought an original console last year that had a rubber repop lid.

I screwed around for hours trying to get it to fit decent. I finally got it to fit flush on three sides, but the hinge area is still terrible.

I even shaved material off the console and lid, but it still bows at the hinge a good 1/4".

Is that a banana paint black used as a console lid. I never had any good luck with the repo either - Just dashes re-does the originals – I have had 2 done and they have come out really nice. $80.00

Hi,
Here are two different views. I bought a repro and the color was not an exact match, but close. Fit was fine.

Motorcity and running, thanks for the pics....the contour on yours where it meets the console is flat, which results in a good fit. My luck with repro parts hasn't been good lately. I guess I'll try to shave the bottom contour flat to make it look good. That's really the only option I have, because at this point, Ames won't give a refund or exchange. If I end up ruining it, no big deal. I'll just look for another one.

$80, that seems pretty reasonable. I'll have to give that a try.
