Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS - Comments Please!
Well, I had the local tire shop that I always deal with order in a set of 255x60x15's for my 1979 TA WS6 car. The owner runs them on his 600hp plus car and swears by them. Also, I remember watching and episode of pinks where a 71 GSX that was heavily modified was wearing them and really kicked some butt!
Does anyone else out there run these tires and or did? Comments please!!!!

I actually just put a set of 235 70 r15s on my new '78. Im 99% sure that most of the cars originally came with Tigerpaws so when the guy gave me a price on them and they were a better deal than all the no name tires everyone else had I said hell yes lets!!
I was going to put the factory 225s on it but when I got there he said the inventory he had was wrong and he only had 3 225s but had 4 235s. I haggled a bit and got the 235s for the 225 price and had them mounted. I installed them on the car when I got it Thursday afternoon and it rides great. I drove the car all day yesterday and it felt like a new riding '78 T/A. Can't complain about that at all. If you want stock type tire on a late 2nd gen Id say definately go for it. Im getting ready to walk out the door right now and take the car out for another drive. |

I put a new set of 245-60-15 Tiger Paw GTS's on my 73 El Camino around 2000 and they lasted for several years. They looked good, handled okay and lasted a reasonable amount of time. Even when new, the tread didn't seem very deep though, which limited their life. So, they were okay, but once they wore out, I decided to see if there was something better.
I next tried Firestone Firehawk SS20, now called Indy 500, on one of my other cars and they handled probably better than any tire I've had. Treadware was good enough. But there are 3 problems with them for me: 1) Since they changed the name, I don't care for the looks with the Indy 500 logo on the tire. 2) They don't have the tire in the 245-60-15 size that I want. 3) It's not good that they keep changing the look of the tire, since if you need to replace one of your older tires, you could wind up with a mismatched set. I still have some SS20's that will no longer match the newer Indy 500's. I was reluctant to try BFG's T/A radials at first, since I had had some in the 80's that weren't very good. But, I found out that BFG has been owned by Michelin since around 1990 and the tires are alot better than they were. So, I bought some and for about 4 years, I've been using 245-60-15 BFG Radial TA's on the Elky, which look great, handle very well, and they've lasted a long time already with alot of life left. Because the TA's on my Elky have been so good, I put another set of TA radials on my 75 Lemans Sport Coupe. And I will get them again for my 79 TA. Because BFG has not changed the look of the raised white letters on the T/A for over 20 years, you don't have to worry about a mismatch when you need a new tire or 2. So, from these 3 brands, my overall favorite is the BFG Radial T/A. |

TIRES, TIRES, TIRES.
I thought about getting the Uniroyals for my Trans Am but when I saw them mounted on another vehicle it just looked like a truck tire, the white letters were too close to the edge of the tire and it just looked like a truck tire. Besides I think the tigerpaw was original equipment on s10 trucks. I didn't want to get bf goodrichs because the letters always seemed to go brown after a couple of years, nothing would whiten them again. I went with Firestone's Indy 500 in 255/60-15, they dont look as wide as the same size BF Goodrich tires< but oh well. |

I haven't had a problem with the white letters on my Radial T/A's.
I know what you mean about the Indy 500's. They have a different construction design. Due to the more defined edge on the tires, where the sidewall meets the tread, they don't seem as wide, and it makes the 255-60's look too tall to me. The handling is very good though. If they'd make a 245-60, and changed the name of the tire back to Firestone Firehawk SS20's, I'd buy some again. |

Love'm!!!!!
Well, had the tires installed today and all I can say is WOW! They stick like glue and hook up just as nicely as the Mickey Thompson ET Streets that were on there and in some cases better! I couldn't be happier and they stand up real straight and look great. I will post pictures as soon as I install the rally centers!!!!

I finally got my camera to work, so hopefully it works on here. This is the '78 I bought in Florida on the 4th of this month. I got it up here (SC) last Thursday. It had some '85 Buick GN wheels on it. I actually picked up these snowflakes about a week before I went to Florida. Got back and blasted and repainted them and had the tires mounted before the car was delivered. Had some flowmasters put on it yesterday. It had super turbos on it. I thought it might have had a much higher duration cam in it and the flows confirmed that lol.... Runs and drives awesome. I'm gonna repost this in the "Show your birds" thread.
