Question 428 YY code question

Hi
I have a YY coded 428cid, that should be a 360 hp from 1967, or?

Over the YY code its stamped 2932780.

Is this the last 7 digits in the VIN number that this engine had belonged too?

It should be a 67, but you can find the date code at the rear of the distributer plateau. It will be three or for digits, starting with a letter. A for January, B for Febuary, etc. The last number will be the last number of the year that the block wast cast. It could have a 6 and still be a 67 if it was cast in late 66. The number over the YY is just a sequential number.

Thanks for the answer.

I will check the numbers at the intake.

I'm pretty sure the 2932780 number is the VIN of the car it came out of, I believe they started doing that in 1967. If you go to the Wallace Racing website and look at the Pontiac engine code search feature, a YY block comes up as one of the following:

1967 428 360 HP
1973 400 200/230 HP
1974 455 250 HP
1975 455 200 HP
1976 400 185 HP

The Wallace Racing site has a lot of other information about how to ID Pontiac parts. http://www.wallaceracing.com/

Stuart, the partial VIN # would be down low, next to the timing cover, not at the top above the engine code. Go to the Wallace Racing site. there is a picture to show what numbers are where.
