Tripower on a 27P block
I have a '64 which originally came with the tri-power. It currently has an Edelbrock Performer series (intake and four barrel) on a 27P block... not the 76X which it probably was born with. From what I can tell, the 27P was for non GTO automatics. I've also been told that the block stamping was merely a signal to the linemen telling them which heads to install, etc. My questions are...

I don't know what the 27P is, but it is the heads that will determine which tri-power you can use.

As OMT says, the heads are all that matters for Tripower application. There was nothing special about the 76X block vs. other 389's or Pontiac V8's of that era. 1964 was the first year Pontiac engines had provision for the starter to mount on the engine instead of the bell housing. From that, it's safe to assume the 29P block is '64 or later. Whether the block is a 326, 350, 389, 400, 421, 428, 455---there is nothing to "damage" or worry about by adding Tripower. If the manifold fits on the heads you have, it will work fine.
