2004-05 GTO purchase??
I am in the market for a new daily driver. I commute approx. 500-1000 miles a week and was looking for something with better mileage than my Yukon. I have never driven the new GTO and wondered if they were comfortable driving that kind of miles a week? I am 6 foot, 200 lbs. and will probably get an automatic as most of my driving time is with a cell phone to my ear. Is there any advice as to what to look for? problems? quality?
Thanks

The 05-06s have 50 more HP and a 6.0L vs a 2004 5.7 liter. The smaller one may get a little better mileage if that's important. The 05-06 also have a little bigger brakes.
I have an 04 and love driving it. Lots of power fair mileage as it's hard to keep your foot out of it!

My commute is 35 miles one way with 90% of it being open freeway @ 70+ MPH. I think the car is perfectly suited for this kind of driving if you discount the price of gas (which I do). My 05 is for sale, but if it doesn't fetch the price I need I'll be happy to keep it. Taking all the emotion out of it, the 04-06 is a great car, with the 05/06 being "greater" based on the bigger brakes and engine.
FYI, every fill up my trip computer says 50+ MPH average, and 20-21 MPG.

Definately a "touring" comfortable car and I go about 6' / 200 lbs...

An automatic GTO is going to get maybe 4-5mpg more than a Tahoe. You might want to find something with a V6 like a used Buick Lucerne or Grand Prix.

my envoy and 04 gto auto get the same mileage at 17 mpg in town. Would not buy one for gas mileage and my 6' 3" 200+ buddy thinks the comfortable is not good for him and my long legs could not work the clutch.

Found a black(my favorite color) 04 in Northern Va with 30,000 miles and an automatic. Going up early in the morning with the checkbook and bringing her home as long as it is as clean as they say it is. Taking it to the dragstrip in the afternoon.....

Good luck on your purchase. I just bought one three weeks ago and love it so far. Fuel costs will be a wash with the goat taking hi test. Your commute will be much more enjoyable though.

Well, that one was a total POS.....so the search continues. That one had been rode hard for its 30,000 miles!! Tires were totally bald and it had a brand new inspection sticker.... volume control was broken of the steering wheel and the real kicker was the drivers side cylinder head had the yellow paint marker 'Lil GTO" on it with a bracket covering part of the "O". I told the guy someone had been in the motor with his response being, "it came from the factory like that" .....

It's a car that lends itself to being beaten on... I'm sure there are a few out there that were treated well, but many are owned by less than responsible people. Too bad you don't live in So Cal - mine is one of the "good ones" available...
Keep looking, you'll find the right one.

If you're looking for mileage, a six speed will be much better. If I cruise at about 65mph, I can get about 26mpg. Normal interstate driving gets me around 23-24mpg.
Mine's an '06/M6.
Good luck with the hunt.

Well, found one today. It is an 04 with 6 speed. It is the lighter blue with black inside. 29,000 miles and very clean. It has a 05 hood on it and after I closed the deal at the dealer they told me they had the original hood wrapped up in the shop, so I took that too.. Very happy with this one. The color almost matches my Warwick blue 69 GTO.....
