Default Engine is done ... thanks to all who helped

My engine goes in tomorrow, so I went over today to take pics since I document everything on the car for my blog.

The engine was in such great condition he didn't have to change a thing, just clean it up. Whomever rebuilt it did it right.

Here it is painted with the new water pump, timing cover and harominic balancer, and the chrome manifold cover.

(The only thing I still need is a chrome thermostat housing)

Thank to EVERYONE who helped me get to this stage.

FYI - Most chrome water necks tend to leak. If you can try to "lap" the sealing surface. (can use wet sanding paper on flat steel plate - wrap paper over plate and sand the sealing surface in a figure 8 pattern... this will make the surface flat and even for a good seal)

Hate to bring this up, but since pics can be so misleading in colors...
is that the correct engine color?
looks to be wrong years color to me...

Bjorn´s correct... It´s the engine´s color for 1959-1965 or 1971-73 Pontiac V8s.

It's not a show car nor is it original, so I used the paint that the former owner gave to me.

As for the 'chrome water neck' I don't know what a water neck is ....

This was my first attempt to paint my engine. I made several mistakes but the color shown is correct for 69. FWIW also noticed that your valley pan has the PCV on the rear of the engine when it should be at the front passenger side corner. This may make it a little more difficult to connect the PCV to the vacuum port on the tranny. Glad to see the project is coming along.

67s PCV valves were in the rear of valley pan. Hers is correct for 67.

Thanks -- this guy does almost all his work on classics and I've seen 3 GTOs there. He owns one as well as a Nova, Chevelle and a few others I can't even remember. Going to his garage is orgasmic, let me tell you!

Just need that damned pulley and the chrome shop needs to get with the program as well.

On the chrome thermostat housing (water neck) use one that has an O-ring , and not a gasket. I have never seen one with a gasket that would seal. Have seen some chrome ones that had O-rings that sealed well. Just my 2 cents worth.

I bought an O ringed one and it started leaking like a seive after about 6 months. I saded the surface flat and it leaked again after a short time. I put the stock one back on and hasnt leaked a drop. Something about the poor metal the chrome ones are made out of.

On the issue of the correct engine color, here is a photo of an OHC engine in the correct color (Bjorn, please correct me if I am mistaken). I remember my original '67 with its 326 being the same color. My current OHC6 lower end got repainted the same color as 1965's when it got rebuilt 25 years ago, and I have always thought it to be incorrect.

I decided to just order a new plain old aluminum housing and have it polished. Mine is too icky to clean up.

Hey 65 Gto I wouldn't worry about such things as Correct unless you are building a show type car or you are planning to do the Numbers match thing build it the way you like and have fun doing so that my friend is what it's all about!

I agree, I m not one for all "original' myself ,but just wanted her to be aware, so she wouldnt be slapped in the face by someone when opening the hood, and thinking it was correct..

Oh, I know hon. I appreciate everyone offering advice, even if I don't take it (though I do take most of it). My 'Stang is not a show car but is 99.99% original down to screws with the correct head markings. For this one I decided to get a little funky and go a little different.

Looks good. I would probably say something if it was pink though.

Now she looks sexy on the inside AND on the inside!

Pink ... I deal with enough pink at work, don't need it in my car, too.
