Question New Guy - Need '67 WT Block

Hello everyone...new guy here about to attempt first frame off ever. Just bought my dream goat, '67 convertible, all original spare the engine ('74 400.) I'm sure this will be one of many newbie questions coming from me, but I would like to attempt to put the correct engine in this car - 67 WT Block, 400 cid, 335 hp, man trans

Going to my first regional club meeting next week, but thought I would check here for suggestions and help.

Thanks in advance

Put out a feeler in the wanted section on this site, and keep an eye on eBay. You might get lucky at a swap meet as well. Oh, and for the best deal, keep an eye on your local craigslist.

I've seen many over the last few months on e-bay and PY. You should not have too much of an issue.....check Hemmings for vendors since you are just starting out that's an excellent source.

Are you going to rebuild it yourself or send it out...

Any pics of your car....

Welcome...

Just found one:

For sale: 1967 WT block, will have to be bored, of this engine I have rods & pistons (pistons are trash), factory steel crank, intake manifold. I also have the heads for this motor but they are currently running on another car. I was planning on selling everything but the heads, but I'll take them off and sell them with it, for more money. The date code is B157.The block has been disassembled and sitting in my garage since 1984,I forgot I had it and came across it cleaning up.I don't want to go through the hassle of shipping it so pick up would be great.Block, crank, rods & pistons,intake---$500, w/heads $950 -Augusta, Georgia

That is late production, but if appropriate for your build date is a DEAL.

Welcome to the board BTW Stein.

Welcome to the Forum! If you are going to search for the "correct" 67 WT block, look for one that is date coded 1 or 2 months before the build date of your GTO. There are enough of them out there that you should be able to find one. Especially if you are going to do a frame off resto. You will have PLENTY of time to shop for the right parts such as this.

You probably already thought about the date code issue, but figured I'd mention it anyway just in case. Good luck on the project. It will be worth it when you are done! NOTHING like a 66/67 GTO Convertible!!!! Jim

Thanks to all, great information. i posted a picture of the car to my garage...but I need to take some lower res pics to upload to this site....sorry will do shortly. Brad, to your question, i'm going to send the engine out, once I have all the pieces . i have the original heads which i'm hoping to use.

Car was built third week in march (03C), so a block with the date code B157 would be appropriate (Feb 15th, '67)??

Pontiac had a number of plants located at one site in Pontiac, Michigan along with several more plants within a few miles of there. If your Pontiac was built in Pontiac Michigan, the engine plant was in the same complex. This "could" shorten the time between engine casting date and body build date.

My GTO was built at the Pontiac Plant and has the original engine. Engine casting date was K 10 5 (November 10, 1965) Both 093 head (1966 heads) K 13 5. The Intake Manifold was K 8 5. No casting dates on the exhaust manifolds, only part numbers. So all cast engine parts were very close in date codes.

The body build date for my GTO was 11 C 2 on the Data Plate and 11 22 5 on the PHS Billing History. This translates to November 22, 1965 2nd Shift (2 would mean 2nd shift on the data plate.)

PHS docs for the 67 GTO will have the actual block number on it, maybe you will get really lucky and find the actual original block. Have you gotten the PHS docs?

I do. By "block number" do you mean the engine unit number? that would be a trip if i could actually find the original block....493950. i have the original owner protection plan and new vehicle warranty book with the protect o-plate.....need the right engine to match it all up
