Default I have bought another Pontiac.

Hi
I have bought a 55 Pontiac Star chief Catalina HT.
I think its all original, but I am not sure.
I have tried to sell this car for a friend, for a couple of years now and I ended up with buying it my self.
It has a little rust, but not so much, it also needs a new exhaust system.
It’s a single exhaust system now, was this cars delivered with double exhaust.
Here are some pics.
Let me know, what you think about it.

Very nice indeed, if you get the prebent dual exhaust from Kanter the factory cast elbow isn't needed on the drivers side for dual exhaust.

Per Jim Hand's book, dual exhaust wasn't available. He bought a new Catalina in April 1955. When he installed an aftermarket dual exhaust system, he had to cut a hole in the X-frame to make room for the second pipe.

Dual exhaust was first used on a Pontiac in 1956.

Thumbs up

Hi
And thanks for the answers.
Because of the winter, I haven’t got the car home yet.
It’s also stored in a warehouse with a lot of caravans around it.
I found a pic of the undercarriage of 55,I think?
And on this car, on the picture, it’s even a heater on the passenger side, below the front seat, who makes it even worse to put on twin exhaust.
I don’t know yet, if my car has that heater under the seat.
This car has a compass and a tissue dispenser.
Does anybody know, if these are the correct ones for 1955?
Sorry, but this is the best pictures I got of them.

The heater is under the driver seat, not the passenger. It also has a defrost unit mounted on the firewall. That looks like a 55 underneath, you can see the "slantpan" hydramatic. To change to dual exhaust a hole will be needed in the x-frame for the pipe to go thru.

My Grandfather had one identical in paint scheme. His was a Laurentian, a Canadian model. I know it had a six cylinder, I think it was a 261 Chevy. He would drive me to and from school in that car. I loved it. Thanks for showing the photos, brings back a nice memory.

Good luck with the car, it is a beauty.

Hi
I got home the 55, yesterday.
I have too rebuild the brakes, it pushes really hard to one side, when I hit the brake pedal and when I drive slow, it locks the brakes at once, when I touch the pedal.

Here are some pics, shot on my way home.

Beautiful Car and Beautiful Country. I am sure you will sort out the problems and enjoy driving it once all the snow is gone. My garage door where my car is stored still has 8 inches of ice in front of it!

Default Some updates..

Here are some new pictures of the 55, with new paint, some chrome and some upholstry job.

This car is now sold and as a part of the deal,I got a 56 Star chief now.
Here are some pics of it.
These car I will need some parts for, especially the stainless around the wheel opening on the passenger side.
I also miss quite a lot of the dash knobs, chrome on the outside visor looks bad and a lot of other things.
Does anybody know about a part car or someone who has used parts for this car?

If your looking for the specific 56 ivory knobs, there was some talk over on the 50's yahoo group about someone was going to try to reproduce them. I have some extra 55 knobs. Just have to paint them an ivory color to match.
I noticed your had radials and factory hubcaps on your 55. It turned out real nice BTW. Did you have problems from keeping the hubcaps from walking off? Did you use the original rims with the radials? My rims with radials would flex and make the hubcaps walk right off.

Hi Bill
It's the original rims, I haven't had any problem with the hubcaps.
But I know about the problem, I have some friends that have had the same problem with a 57 Ford and a 57 Chevy.

Maybe it have something to do with the mileage of the car, that some rims are more tired than others, I really don't know.

But I had radial tires for heavy cars on my 55, maybe thats the reason.

I will be interested in your knobs.

Do you have the address to the 50's yahoo group?

Just scroll thru the past messages , I think it was a week or two ago about the knobs.

I know I don't have any extra radio knobs, what else did you need?
