Default Why does my driver side rear sit lower???

I hope someone can help me out here. I think this was brought up before.

1. I just put on new Eaton Detroit rear coil springs. The same kind the GeeTO Tiger has.

2. I also put on new Edelbrock shocks.

Question:
Why does the driver side rear sit a little lower than the passenger side?

The springs are new and the same. The shocks are new and the same.

Would the bad bushings have anything to do with it?

Because of your fat a$$. LOL Just kidding. Maybe the springs were not lined up correctly? Just a guess.

Body bushings or lack there of could be one issue.

Jeff,
you might have something there. The body bushings are very old.
Have you ever changed them before? Is it hard?

Jerry,
I do weight more than the average guy. It is not fat though. (watch out)

Have you replaced our front shocks and springs as well?? You could have a problem with the fronts that's pulling the rear to one side. That's the issue with my 67. It sits lower on the driver side too... my front shocks and springs need replaced bad!!

Front springs and shocks were replaced. The front springs were too tall so I cut one coil off each.I need to get taller EATON rear springs.

Blue66-
I just went through this with my '66 GTO. If you go with taller Eaton springs, you will need to get longer rear shocks. I went to a 2" taller spring in the rear and my Edelbrocks wouldn't work worth a crap. I went with longer KYB and it made all the difference in the world.

As for the lean, I replaced the entire suspension and body bushings and STILL have a slight lean to the driver-side. I just call it "character".

Measure the frame to the ground at the jacking points and see if you have the same lean to see if it is the body bushings. After that, I would check to see if your front springs are sitting in the recess in the bottom pocket. Next swap the springs side to side and see what happens. Our frames were never that strong and you might also have little twist in the frame.

Blue66-
Attached are the picture of my new rear stance using Eaton custom springs with a 2" lift and KYB gas shocks (replacing the too short Edelbrock Classic IAS ones).

Any questions, let me know.

winbub,
Are the springs the same ones that the GeeTO Tiger has on?
Part # MC 1251

I just installed the MC 1251 on my 66. It looks like it sits close to yours.
I wish mine would sit up a little higher in the rear. They are stiffer and a little taller than stock.

Taking a second look. Yours sits a little higher in rear?

I have edelbrock shocks on my 66. I have not had any problems.

What size tires and rims are you running?

Fullback-
These are Eaton Custom rear springs with a 2" lift. I don't have the part number handy.
I am running 15x8 Wheel Vintique Rally II's on the rear with 235\60R15 BFG's.
I replaced the body bushings as well...did you?

Blue-
I would say 1-2" above the top of the rear tire to the wheel lip. Did you change your body bushings as well?

No not yet and they really need it!I think I will wait to replace the rear springs until I get the body mounts replaced. My Dad was doing this restoration for me while I was in Germany.(Army)Never could find replacement front springs so thats why it sits so low and he couldn't find ANY replacement rear springs so the guy jerry-rigged it!He used about a 2in high galvanized pipe for the springs to sit on! It worked

Winbub,do you think my old car color is the same as yours?Looks like it

Blue-
Yes, your old car color looks the same as my current car color. It is "GM Nightwatch Blue". I love the color and am repainting it using the same color.

For springs, you can go with Eaton 2" lift rear springs and front springs from PY...that's what I did. The entire body bushing kit is available as well.
