Default Anyone Run (Try to Run) 8" Rims with a 5" Back Space?

I'm currently trying to fit 8" with a 4" BS (26" tall tire) on my 71 bird. Looks like it sticks out about 1/2 to 3/4" to much and may rub the lip.

I found a really nice rim that I like but it's 5" BS - has anyone verified that this will run and clearance ok?

Thanks!
Mark

I run a 15x8 on my '71 Firebird with 4.5" backspacing. I think that 5" would be fine. My tires stick out a little from the rim (275/60-15) and they come just up to the fender without rubbing; so I think extra half inch of backspacing would be fine.

I run a 15x 8 x 4.75 B/S rim. Its a special order torque thrust, CL205 series. The tires are 275x60s. No rubbing. IF I remember correctly, I got about 1/2 between the tire and the leaf spring, so there is room to go.

I wouldn't cut it any closer than that. Tire sidewalls can deflect quite a bit under hard cornering.
