Default WHITE LETTERS OR BLACK WALLS

THINKING OF PUTTING AMERICAN RACING RIMS ON OUR 69 GTO CONVERTIBLE. HAVE RALLY 2'S WITH B.F. GOORICH RADIAL T/A'S. ANY PICS OF AFTER MARKET RIMS WITH BLACK WALLS?

Never been a fan of White Letters except the Factory Bias Ply ones for the factory stock look. Black walls look better with aftermarket wheels, redlines look good with Torque Thrust wheels too.

I've always liked raised white letters on late 60's early 70's american cars. I just switched my 69 Z/28 from 15 x 7 ralleys to 15 x 7 American Torq Thrust D's and put BFG T/As on wiht white lettering out...I'll see if can snag a picture for you.

I put red lines on my 69 GTO with 14 x 7 Rallye IIs and red lines on 15 x 7 Cragar SS rims for my 67 Camaro Convert...looks pretty cool.

Hi,
I have a 68 that had Cragar 15x7" with BFG TA on it.
I changed to Rally IIs with the same tires. Wanted to get the car back to window sticker trim.

go with white letters, blackwalls are for trucks! (alright, alright, I'm new here and don't want to ruffle feathers, I'm sure blackwalls look good to some of you folks, I'm just a fan of the white letter look!) not sure how to attach a picture to this, XP doesn't seem easier then 98 in that aspect. what happened to copy and paste?

Cool Blackwalls...

with Torque Thrust D's. Considering redlines, though. If you go with white letters, get something close to what would have been on the car in the day. Not some HURCULES XL2000 ROAD HUGGER type tire. That slays me. Anyway, each to his own! Ron BTW...not too shabby ...for a truck, eh! Wheels are goung either on my '69 ragtop or my '69 LeMans hardtop. Cannot decide. Take care.

Jeg -- awesome! your chrome is burning my eyes.... Carlos, thanks for that! all I ever hear is "but it's not a judge!" Here's my other two white letter babies. I won't embarrass myself with pictures of my 69 Judge that's been sitting for 19-1/2 years of "next year I'm doing it for sure!" I've more than doubled my age since I bought it.

So, white or black? What did you decide?

jegstek, sometimes I hang around 68-9 camp too much and miss cars like yours. Very very nice example of the "Great One". Wow.

gto4evr, 4 pontiacs altogether? My wife would divorce me (might be o.k. if I could afford to keep the cars after!)

Thumbs up Awesome rides!!!

Ron, hadn't seen your red GTO before - BEAUTIFUL!! Black walls and
torque thrusts look cool as is.

GTO4EVR, I noticed the NY plates, where do you hail from? I'm up in the
Central NY (Syracuse) area. Joining the local POCI club this summer to
see how many other Pontiac fans there are around town.

About that Judge sitting, hey, as long as its dry and not rusting out while
sitting there (common problem in my neck of the woods) it'd be worth it when you get to it!

I've ran my cars both ways, one of my buddies always lobbied for black wall
out as when we were younger and money was tough to come by ( actually it
still is and thats one reason I'll probably still keep BWO on mine) you coulds
always replace two of the four and not have the car look too fugly. LOL

Howard

Cool New addition...

we traded the race car for this one. Blackwalls have already been replaced by my son, the redline freak! lol I,too, am rekindling my love affair with the earlier cars. Just a certain feel to them. Thanx for the kind words, and good luck! Ron

Ron, first step is black to red, next step is from red to white! split the difference and just run white wall stripes!

Howard, I'm in Lancaster NY, about 5 minutes east of Buffalo. Not in a single club....got a bad taste in my mouth from a little snobbery from the local president a few years back:

Me: "wow, that's a real nice 64 GTO convertible you got there! I've got a 69 convertible and a 69 Judge I'm working on...."

President of whatever GTO club of western NY: "Oh...I don't like those..... by the way I have 50 sets of original door panels, I'll sell you a set that's been under lake Erie for the past 25 yrs for $1200....are you interested?" Alright, this happened back in the 80's and maybe he had a bad day....

I haven't gotten around to getting into anything...been too busy working on them for 20 yrs to justify sitting in a lawn chair for the day instead of underneath it covered in grease!

as to running two white letter and two black, put them on the opposite sides of the car so you can do a photo op each way!

Later, Dennis

Default Some people,,

Dennis , I'm hoping I don't run into that with the local guys. I can appreciate your reaction to that d*ckhead, some people are just asses- period.
One of by buddies from college just finished his 67 firebird that he's had since high school. He said the local club is helpful and not stuck-up.
One of my other friends dad heads up the CNY Street Rod association. Lots of cool cars- tons of blowers running in that group. They bring a pretty good contingent to the Syracuse Nationals. Ever make it to that event? Not too shabby, quite a few cars to check out.

Naw,,, my buddy always thought BWO since he could replace he ones he would smoke off the back easier and not have to necessarily match up the front. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer but it did make sense at the time.
Related Pontiac story- He blew the 455 in his T/A out running New York's finest one night. He got away but it cost him. Too bad,, that car handled like it was on rails and ran like a raped ape. He traded it for a 71 chevelle with a 454, I was with him when he crashed it ( also while trying to out run a State trooper) it couldn't handle like the T/A and he lost it turning right at 50mph. Last time I EVER rode with him!!!

Beautiful cars you've got. Take care!!
Howard

With this group who needs a club anyway?

I get far more information and way less testosterone attitude here
