Default Electric Fuel Pump

Can anyone tell me when I need to run a return off an electric fuel pump. I have used a mallory 140 for years on my street car with no return but it just went bad and I was wondering if I should have had a return to the tank. I replaced it with a holley blue.

Thanks

The fuel presser regulator used will dictate if a return line is required (in this case) not the pump. A return style regulator will always increase a pump’s life span by reducing strain and cooler/quieter running too.
