Default 68 GTO Tail light housing

Trying to put a 68 GTO (formerly a parts doner I think) together and have a question on tail light housings. I have some repro lenses however do not seem to have the housings to go put them on. In beginning the quest for finding them, can GTO or LeMans be switched out? Might be easier to find them if so. Appreciate the help.

GTO tail light housings are different than LeMans or Tempest housings. The GTO housings are fiberglass while the others are metal. I'm not sure if you can put a GTO lens on a LeMans housing. I would assume not since GM went through the trouble of making a special housing for GTOs.

No GTO Lights do not fit in the Lemans Housings. Also Performance Years has the housings for sale as well as several other vendors. They are not cheap, but it is near impossible to find orig. housings in good shape.

The holes where the screws mount the lense onto the '68 GTO tail lights line up differently than on a LeMans. If memory serves me correctly....I think you can put GTO tail light lense in a LeMans housing but only 2 screw holes line up?

Like jbronson said. its probably ur best bet to buy repo. housings i'm not sure but i think they just started makeing repo. of these within the last year?.. but yes you should get correct housings to match your lenses because im in the same boat as you i have the common gto tail lenses on my goat but the housing is fit for a tempest style tail light...
p.s. anyone know why this is?.. my vin #does I.D. it as being a gto.. but did '68 goat offer tempest tail lights as any kind of option?.. i've only seen 2 other true GTO's with tempest styled tail lenses..

NO THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO FIT.
BUT ..........................THEY CAN EASILY BE ADAPTED TO FIT
IF YOU DONT WANT TO USE THE INCORRECT HOUSINGS, DON!, BUY REPOPS.
THEY LIKE MOST THE OTHER REPOP PARTS ARE FAR INFERIOR TO THE FACTORY ORIGINALS ,PERIOD!
AND MAYBE BEFORE YOU BOUGHT YOUR CONV GOAT JBRONSON, THEY MAY HAVE CHANGED THEM OUT? NEVER KNOW?,LIKE THEY WERE FALLING APART ETC, THE FIBERGLASS HOUSINGS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR JUST THAT

If I could tack onto this thread, what about the push on speed nuts on the housing? I have one missing. Are they available? Are there any other options?
