Default THE YEAR OF MY REAR

Did a thread search already. I know what the 2 letter codes mean (mine is YH - 3.55 Safe - T - Track). But what I am trying to find out is what year it is. Code YH appeared in many years. Found the # 8176 near the pumpkin as well as the # 9783393. Car is a '66 but when I replaced the pinion seal the only seal that fit was one listed for a '75. Have surfed and surfed but can't find anything to break the code. A little help, please? Thanks.

Could it be a B176 instead of an 8176?

It certainly could be - that part was a bit rusted. I am wondering if this means it was made in '76? Since I need a new u - joint, this question has become a bit important - want to get the right one, etc. Thanks.

Those books just don't go back far enough. A '76 rear won't fit in your car anyway. A 10-bolt Pontiac seal (1-7/8" x 2-3/4") is PN 1242068 from my '75 and '80 master parts catalogs and fits most '64-'80 A-body. There are a couple of different numbers used here and there, but on F, H, and X-bodies. I would not worry about which it is unless you find it measures different than this one.
