Default 1970 GTO heater fan

My heater fan motor doesn't run. I've been told I need a new motor. Any idea where its located and what kind of a job is it to change??

It's located behind the front passenger side wheel. Specifically ehind the fender well. You will see a round hole already lined out that they used to service the fan motor. They would just cut out the hole and then weld it back in. I would remove the fenderwell instead. It could also be the relay or switch.

Yeah that's one of those jobs where the part only cost 30-40 bucks but it's kind of a pain to change all tucked in behind the fenderwell. Did my '69 heater core last year and I replaced fan motor while I had it all apart since the part was cheap. Good Luck.

delco motors no longer available. Procedure is in service manual. Prefer to remove wheel well instead.

The squirl fan came loose on my 70 GTO covertible(with ac) last year. I had to remove the inner fender well to get to it. Just remove all the bolts and "rotate" the fender well counter clockwise out of there. Easier that you might think. Then the fan moter is right there in the open and very easy to work on.

Just completed this on my '71. As stated, just remove the inner fender well. You will most likely have to loosen the lower fender bolts as well as removal of the passenger side front valance bolts. Use caution so you don't damage your paint. If your heater core hasn't been replaced, you may want to consider changing it also since you will have access to its retaining points as well.

Talking I have ...

a new motor I'm not gonna use. This is a replacement unit...not Delco. The fan seems slightly longer, but you could use your old one. I'd sell it for $30 shipped, if interested. Thanx. Ron
