GTO/Lemans Donor Question
Hey guys I'm new to this forum so please excuse me. Looking at picking up a 69 GTO off someone it looks nice but someone who knows the guy mentioned that it may actually be a complete lemans donor frame and shell etc. Been readin awhile seems to be many experts on here. Might some of you give me a list of things to check for differences between a lemans and gto frame & body? etc.
Thanks! -Tom |

If the VIN tag, the cowl tag, and the paperwork don't ALL say the body style code is "242xx" it ain't a GTO. If it says 235xx or 237xx, it's a Tempest or Lemans. If you suspect that the tags have been changed, the special star-shaped rivets are "uncommon", shall we say, so if they look round, or God help us, are screws, they've been changed. There are usually other stamped numbers on the frame and body, but they're purposely made hard to find and hard to get at. And sometimes they're not readable.

Your absolute best bet is to obtain a PHS report and see if the car exactly matches it. Missing options with no sign of previous emplacement are sure signs of finaglery.

If it is tagged as a GTO and is actually a Lemans body and it retains the original quarters, the rear side marker lights had to be modified. You may try looking inside the trunk at these areas to see if you can see any evidence of that modification
