Are any of you running headers on your 61's? What kind and what year?

Someone said the early firebird headers would fit.

I put a set of 67 Firebird Hooker headers on my 63 Catalina and a friends 61 Ventura. I had to modify # 5 pipe to clear the steering box. It's been about 15 years since I did it. I'm pretty sure that I had to use a Super Duty upside down starter. If you are running a later block you could use a mini starter. Why dont you get a set fron Nunzi or Dick Duclow?

Rompn,
Did you modify with a hammer or was it some cut and weld stuff.

I'm on a tight budget for the entire car so I'm working to get as much done as I can for now. So If I can get an inexpensive set of headers to work, that's what I would like to do. I have more time than $$$

As I recall I cut a section out and rotated it 180 degrees and welded it back in. I was in the same boat as you, more time than money. It took me over five years to finish my car and I loved every minute of it. It was like having sex, enjoy it as long as you can and don't be in a hurry to end it.

Just put a set of Mad dog round port headers on my 61 about three weeks ago. Very nice and they were easy to install. You can get them direct or you can order them from Nunzi.

The currently made Firebird headers that I have tried had the #1 tube tring to go thru the crossmember on my 63! Then #5 had to be rotated as mentioned. I'd try the Mad dog's mentioned before I try Firebird headers again.
