My engine is getting real close to being done. I need a recomendation on sparkplugs, mainly which heat range. I have a set of 62,s on my new 455 comp. is 12 to 1. This is a track car that hopefully will be in the tens. I can,t find any information from sparkplug companys regarding heat ranges for pontiacs. I know it should be a few colder. But I'm haveing a tuff time with parts house people that just know stock applications and can't tell me which plugs are colder. I will be greatfull for any help.
Thanks Mike S

Mike
Sounds like a great combo...I guess I'm a little partial though My 462 with 62#s and 12:1 runs 10.30's in a 3500lb street car on motor only. I have tried AC delco R43S and R45S. Reason for trying the 43's was for nitrous use. I have also tried Bosch plat. My best passes have always been with AC R45S gapped at .040. I think if a plug is fresh, clean and gapped correcly, and is in this general heat range, it will work. For nitro, choose a plug with meaty electrode strap like the Bosch.
I would like to hear more details on your car and would like to be updated on its performance if you have the time. Please E-mail me with any info.

I use NGK B7S. #62 heads and 469". Seems like the perfect choice to me.

I used Autolight 73 or 75.

Also, happen to cut the groung lug short and reform for side-gapped operation.

Half Inch, You side gap your plugs! I side gapped mine back in the 60's. People made fun of me and after that I would not let anyone see my plugs. On my 1959 Cat. tri-power NHRA stocker, I could pick up a tenth when I side gapped the plugs.

Ask the parts counter guys if you can look at the books they get from their manufacturers. The spark plug company books I've looked at have info on heat ranges, how to read their numbering systems, etc.
The computer parts guys really look at you funny if you start asking about things like bigger radiators for engine swap projects.
