I have been having problems with the sensor and tried to get a new one from autozone and they say it needs a Tu5 but my sensor has 3 connectors and the autozone one has 1. Anybody seen a temp sensor with 3 prongs or does my car have the wrong sensor and connector

What year? 1970?
They are probably trying to sell you a generic sending unit. Might have to try Pontiac/GM.

The three prong temp sender is no longer made either by GM or aftermaket companies. It is available only as a NOS part or used. I have seen them on EBAY. Good luck finding one. I have several I got with engines/intakes from the junkyards. Sorry can't part with any.

Yes it is for a 1970 and I looked on a 69ta 72ta 68 firebird and they all have the one with the single nipple. But you say that nobody even classic ind. I looked everywhere and nobody has them. Any recommendations on what I should do?

Are you wanting it to look original?
If not you can probably modify the wiring to work with the aftermarket unit. Or use an aftermarket gauge. If you want original look, probably watch Ebay.

In your trio-harness, the Green wire is the Temp-gauge line to a single-prong sender.
The other 2 wires (I'll guess black&white) are probably not doing anything useful these days. Can leave open or tie closed. I think they drive the Solenoid-Cold-Idle step. Who known their their operation????
