Which header coatings have you guys used (Jet Hot, HPC, etc.) and how well have they held up? I would like to know about good and bad experiences and how long the coating has been in service (years/runs down the track/miles) and whether you sent your own headers or bought them already coated. Also list if your headers were used (rusty) prior to coating. Color might make a difference in durability, too. Thanks.

I bought mine coated from Hooker, who I believe uses Jet Hot. They have been fine so far on the dyno and at the track. They are scratched from installing and have some oil on them too, but so far, all the coating is still there and shiny. Two thumbs up.

I had two sets done by Jet Hot. I sent both of them there after I had the headers. The first pair was brand new. They have been in street service about 8 years. I just had them re-coated due to a terrible rear main seal leak. It got very crusty on the passenger side. It was easiest for me to have them clean it up and recoat them. The other set was a used set that I bought for my racecar. They were in good shape but had a lot of surface rust. They came out great. They are about two years old with over 100 runs on them. I always have them coated inside and out to take advantage of the thermal barrier, and to give them a longer life. In both cases I had them done in black.

LarryF,on my second set of Jet-hot coated inside & out. First were BBC, lasted 5 years prior to selling my Chevelle w/ excellent finish. Last I knew they were still looking great. Taht would make them over 10 years old.
Second set are for my 428 build-up, haven't installed them yet. Been sitting in the box for 5 yrs. waiting. In both cases I had the new headers drop shipped from Summit to Jet-hot.
I believe they do not warranty them for life if they aren't new when the finish is applied.

sent a hole box of stuff to jet hot a few years back and the headers still look great. a friend has a mustang with a turbo we did some of the pipes on it, lasted about 2.5 years or 12000 moles and its all gone now but that stuff got very hot!

Had two sets done by HPS inside and out. I needed the second set in a hurry for a race and has them back in a week.

i had my NO rust, tri-y's coated inside & out by AirBorn Coatings. they had in ad in National Dragster for their high-luster coating for $180, had 'em back in a week and they look great after 4 yrs of street/strip use.
Jet-Hot wanted over $250!

Ditto to Larry N's experience with Airborn Coatings. They did a great job on my old headers in the time stated, and at a competitive price. They clean, strip, and do minor repairs for the stated price. They have several locations around the country so might make it easier on shipping charges. Jim Hand

I had bad luck with my Hookers they were on my race car that only went to the race track & they were taken off & put inside the house in the winter & i had 2 sets of them rust. This was when Hooker was in Mexico & they had there own coating. We don't see alot of problems with Jet Hot or Hedmans coating hear at Summit.

Be careful before you have headers drop shipped for coating. Many times the headers need dimpled or ground to fit a chassis. I always trial fit before coating.

I'll agree with Wade, have yet to have a set that didn't need a "massage" to fit! Some even major tube changes.

One Pontiac racer(Lee Bannister) told me you can order direct fron Jet Hot for cheaper than buying and getting them coated.

I second what Wade mentioned you won't beleive how many people order from us & have them shipped direct to Jet Hot & then go to install them & guess what they don't fit & they expect us to pay for the coating & take the headers back. Always test fit before you decide to modify a part because once you decide to modify a part it is your's.

Great info guys! Airborn sounds like it might be a good alternative to Jet-Hot. Jim, how long have your headers been in service? I am more concerned about the life of the coating, so I want to make sure I am getting the best performance before I shop for the best price. Thanks for all of your input.

Larry,
My headers ave ben coated for only two years, and have not seen severe weather conditions. However, Airborn has an excellent warranty.

When comparing prices, consider shipping charges as that is a significant portion of the total price. Jim Hand

Airborn did mine. We have a branch up here in CT. I haven't had them on the car long enough yet to say whether it lasts but it seems like a quality job. They were very busy when I had my headers coated and they wouldn't be if they did a lousy job. Here's a link;

The HPC coating has been on my Hookers for over 10 years on one side. I had them "freshen" the opther side 5 years ago.
