Hello everyone, I have a simple question. I'm installing a 73 Nova 8.5" 10 bolt on my 68 Firebird. The spring perches have four bolts. Well, some of my bolts are in poor condition, are they something I can just pound out and change?
I already thought about cleaning them up, but a few have to much damage. Thank you and good day friends. Michael >>> rr67gto@aol.com Build it fast, build it right, hold On TIGHT !!!

I agree about using u-bolts.
I'm getting ready to install an 8.5 in my 69 Firebird. I figure using u-bolts will be better, especially since I had to relocate the perches to fit in my car. Not that I'm a bad welder, I just feel more comfortable. Now I only need to find out where to get a rear u-joint to use. The 8.5's take a larger u-joint then the 8.2 Any one know where to get a u-joint with different cap sizes?

RR67GTO, yes they are replaceable as the others have stated. If ya want to look original PY has a hardware kit with 2 u-bolts and 4 T-bolts and 8 nuts, also Classic Ind has T bolts avail separately, otherwise it's cheaper to go with local purchase u-bolts! Just be sure top get them from an auto parts store instead of a hardware store!

I used to use a driveshaft, with a 1330 U-joint, mated to a rear-end yoke, that takes a 1350 U-joint. Any drivetrain shop will have the U-joint that you need. Bill

I got a U-joint several years ago to adapt a GM driveshaft to a Mopar rearend. I think I bought it at Carquest, but it was a NAPA part.

'67-69 Bird had Spicer 1330 u-joint
'72 & '73-74 Ventura 8.5 had small chebby Spicer 1310 u-joint. '75+ 8.5 GM used Spicer 1330... Simple solution, build rearend with later 8.5 pinion yoke. Make sure & cut 1" off driveshaft if going from 8.2 to 8.5 with original 8.2 driveshaft.
