Looking for cam choice advice. Car is a 67 GTO, with 406, quadrajet, stock exh. manifolds, 2.93 rear (maybe a 3.23 in the future), th400, stock converter, a/c, power brakes. I'm now having the engine rebuilt. Using KB 17cc dished pistons and near zero deck height to get 9.4:1 compression ratio. Heads are 670, three angle valve job, bronze liners, intake and exhaust ports matched. Car is primarily for show in restored class, but it's a driver, highway driven to shows. Of course I want some cam lope at idle, but not willing to give up much vacuum. I was thinking Comp XE262 cam (262/270, 218/224 at .050, .462/.470 lift) with 988 springs and 1.5 roller tip rockers.

ps. sorry for another cam advice post, but I didn't see another combo like this. Thanks, Ron

If you can tolerate the "tick tick" noise and want a lumpy idle with vacuum, stick a R.A. IV cam in there (or modern equivalent like the Comp 280AH10) with Rhoades lifters. Those low (numerically) gears won't help it much, but it'll still run fine and sound great for a show cruiser. Otherwise I think a cam like the Summit 2801 would be better suited (214/224 @ .050", not too lopey but would work better with those highway gears).
