I have a 71 400 with a late 70's quadrajet with the divorced style choke,,my problem is I can not get the choke circut to work at all, so I am having with cold starts. When it does run it is running rich. I have a very healthy roller cam with good compression but it seems to bog at wide open throttle becasuse of too much fuel. Any help would be cool or anybidy know a good quadrajet person in the DC metro area?

Cliffs Qjets is the man you want but there is a slight wait for his services because they are excellent from all the posts I have read anyone who got a carb from him was nothing but happy!
Carb king is also another qjet guy I believe and he is also on the board check em out its worth the money to have a carb shipped ready to run.

May i ask , what jets and metering rods do you have in it?? sounds like its a choke problem allright but are you sure power piston is not sticking?? Are you running a divorced style choke that go,s to intake manifold?? whats your choke set up like?? Im reading that alot of guys are running hand operated chokes now, easier to function. I can now rebush throttle shafts if your interested. Thanks Rich

Stock q-jets normally don't work well with large cams as they get false airflow signals at low speeds. If you want to keep that carb, send it off to one of the mentioned shops and give them all of your engine/car info

Are you using an intake gasket that blocks off the exhaust cross over on the intake?

I must admit that I really do not know what metering rods or jets are in the carb, I went through mechanic school on the late 90's, when I made my money on fuel injected stuff and slept on the carb sections. Sounds like I made a mistake

I'm in the DC area also (Fairfax). In my experience don't bother messing with anyone local - go ahead and send it to Cliff. I have had two carbs done by him.

I have the same divorced choke set up on my '68 GTO and have messed with it A LOT to get it to work OK. Email me if you like and I may be able to help with that part.

It does but the carb is a Chevy Carb, I think it is from a 1977 MT car.

gto 71, i dought it if its a to much fuel problem at all unless you installed some mamouth jets or something ,ok, first check to see whats binding, Find out whats in the carb. such as jets metering rods, Do you know how much fuel pressure you have at idle??According to some of the things ive leaned was idle mixture screws opened?? restrictions opened at all? idle tubes tuning for you spec. car?? Personally id find a original 71 400 carb. for such a beauty of a car. Go from there. Again its a A-b-c thing .

Talked to him on the phone first - he said there were 60 ahead of me. I should get it back in about 1.5 to 2 months. Cant wait!
