I'd like to see light oil replace antifreeze in the cooling system. 0 PSI system, Higher boil point, no rust.

Problem remains at getting the heat out of the oil. This is a classic, so no naivety here.

Problem in winter months as oil will not mix with oil. Water will still freeze...NFG.

Light oil like Auto Trans fluid; good heat capacity, and cold/hot viscosity, inexpensive.

Interesting thought...

We have always used water because from the beginning you could find water anywhere. The old cars always needed more water, any you could even find it in a stream if needed. We have just put band-aids on the cooling system over the years, never a true advancement...

Paul, I think 1/2 is talking about a 100% solution, not a 50/50 mix with water.

Dang, Where's Eric D when you need him!

I like the idea!

I understand now, I assumed that when he said "replace" the anti-freeze that the water would remain as I have never run 100% anti-freeze in my cars...only the truck and that stuffs pink.

Light oil maybe...viscosity=pumping losses. Exhaust valve area, no more steam maybe, burnt oil carbon buildup...leads to heat retention...leads to cracked heads. Burned carbon builup breaking away filling cooling system with particles. Cooling system filters neccessary?

Cool down between rounds needs recycling bin instead of hose.

Couple thoughts

Yes, lets all add a couple more hundered pounds in junk to our race cars just because a half-wit says it would work.

Come on guys.

Hmmmmm.....
Upside:

Can mix with nasty 80-90 & haul off to Wally World. No more chants "It floats, they all float"

Hmmmmm.....

Downside:
-More "oil" for track "oil downs"
-Good old Ethylene Glycol will take a squeegee, "oil"...have to buy more OIL DRY
-no more telltale "milkshakes" when things have gone terribly wrong
-no more clear antifreeze, no more cat "soup"!

100% auto Trans Fluid, no water.

No HP or Torque gains here...

I included the "no naievety here line" because the heat rejection of oil is about 1/4th of water. But Auto Trans Fluid maybe about 1/2 of water. And even closer to Ethel's Glycol. So, maybe this could be a fluid swap for some cold-runners out there.

Sooooo, the merits of this would be obvious to racers with hard-block blocks, and Auto-trans....as Rashy figured in private email tossings.

Trans pump cooling line [OUT] feeds the heads [rear heater taps], Front crossover taps go to classic radiator size, and hits a B&M reserve tank, than back to tran [IN] line. I don't think the flow rate is anywhere close to keeping the engine cool on the street - but I dunno.

Mechanical Fan is a must for idle and stop/go.

OK, a low-ash fluid sounds better but there is no atmosphere to promote oxidation. Just really hot trans fluid...converter's and clutchpacks stay darn clean for the toast they make.

LLucas,

Provided there is no rust, fluid aging to require flushing or replacement. That [www.evanscooling.com] would meet all my issues! Near 0 PSI would be hitting a homerun.

ANOTHER satisfied customer - me!
