Hi,

Just wanted to show off my new Rally II's from Wheel Vintiques. Pretty happy with them for the most part, but one of them probably shouldn't have made it through quality control. Can definitely tell the center was well-used. The paint on it is pretty bad as well.

Tires are Yokohama Avid ST's - P245/60R15. Love 'em. Quiet and smooth, and what a difference in handling from the stockers, even with my worn out suspension. No interference, although the left front rubs - that's due more to the sagging front springs than anything else.

Looks good! I agree on the paint finish....sucks

My 15/8's are less than a year old and I'm getting rust spots already.

I've got some stock 15x7's on the front of my car that are as old as the car, and they show it in how they look. I bought some 15x10's from Wheel Vintiques about a year ago, and they almost look the same now, with rust and chipping. Think if I were to repaint these, I would have the same problem? Or do they just use some cheap paint at Wheel Vintiques?

I'm in the same boat. 15/7 originals on the front. I'm sure if you repainted them and clear coated, you'd have a more durable finish.

PY sells a kit that does a set of wheels with the proper colors. Another project on the list.

The paint is just terrible on the Wheel Vintiques wheels. Pretty disappointing, because I had assumed that they would be powder coated. I had to be very careful when tightening the lug nuts not to contact the wheels with the socket. Messed up one of them that way. The paint is so thin in some areas that you can peel it off with your fingernail. I have resigned myself to a repaint and clearcoat next year. They do look pretty nice from a distance, and it saved me the grief of having to restore my own wheels right now, but WV will definitely be getting a nice little complaint from me.

Forum Members,

Just finished my own Ralley II's this afternoon. After looking at the prices and the quality I decided to do my own. Had a set of four sandblasted, primed and painted myself by spray can. For the price and the quality you can beat it. Decided to do mine in gun metal gray and silver. Clearcoat tomorrow. I recommend using the stick on masking kit for the spokes.

The 15" wheel is starting to disappear from the boneyards as its been a long time since it was sold. Buy six or seven if you have a chance since invariably some are bent once you check them with the tire off. There are several 15" wheels. There's the '70 only wheel which used the 14" center. Rare and valuable. There's the 15x6 wheel which was generally found on big cars. Avoid. Get 15x7s off of Firebirds and Grand Prixs/Lemans. The 15x7 Olds SS II trim ring looks more like a '70-'72 trim ring than the brushed '73 up Pontiac trim ring. Grab those if you can if you're on a budget. Once you sandblast, prime, paint (3-4 colors) buy lug nuts, centercaps and trim rings you're into some money but nothing beats the factory look!

These were on the car when I bought it a few days ago. They are 15x8 front and 15x10 rear. I love the silver against black. Are these available somewhere, or were these wheels custom done? The centercap says "PMD". I wouldn't even dream of taking these off for an aftermarket wheel.

Both the 15x10 and 15x8 wheels are available from Wheel Vintiques and will take the stock PMD center caps. Wheel Vintiques sells them with the correct silver on charcoal colors (but a poor paint job). Many people paint their rally II's black and silver instead of the dark grey color because it's just something they prefer.

Your car looks great. Sorry to hear that the rims aren't quit what you expected. I WAS thinking about getting a set from them but I might rethink that one. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey jwcfbd, I got a good set of 15" Rally 2's from a guy out of Moultrie, Ga. pretty reasonable. Let me know and I will look up the phone #. These were already sandblasted and painted, I clearcoated them myself before I put them on.

robocop, I just measured the 15x7's I have and
one of them has a 14" center like you described.
I wondered why it was so funny looking. What is
the correct application for this wheel? Just how rare and valuable is it? Does anyone one
on here want it? It is stamped KN.

Thanks,
Chip

I've heard many bad news stories about Wheel Vintiques stuff. I hope your paint doesn't start to prematurely peel. I was going to purchase from them but I don't think I will take the chance.

Same here - got the 15x8's. They started rusting at the joint between the wheel face, where the 2 pieces are welded. I remember getting a note in the box stating that the wheels need to be protected (clearcoated?) to prevent rust.

From what I understand, they take original wheel centers and weld to new outer rims. So becareful, I've seen some poor condition lug nut seats that are worn and/or oversized. Use good lugs, not the repop with red or black inserts. I also understand that they are tooling up to make new centers. 15" first then 14", but when this happens????

I got 4 Wheel Vintiques 16x8's coming from Summit friday. Hope they are what I expect. I still have the 2 new 15x8's in the box. They seem small when I tested one. Looks like a 10 inch wheel. The color also dosn't match original charcoal. Still, the ralley II wheel is the best!

HEY SJMULE>>>>>

Do you have a big hot shot of the SR-71 like in your avatar? I had a chance for pics back in 1980 at Fairchild AFB but Mt. St. Helens blew and they rushed it back in the hanger. Still my favorite next to the Raptor.
