Does anyone know where I could send my bezel for the dash? The chrome look has been removed from rubbing in some areas.

Check our this thread:
http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...1024#810601024 The guy sent me an e-mail and said that he tried it and it came out great. A heckuva lot cheaper than rechroming, too. Save yo Confederate money, boys, the South is gonna do it again! Pecosbill

Pecosbill,
I've tried that chrome paint on the rear arm rest and I thought that it turned out terrible. This was even using the plastic primer, spraying with the "just like chrome" paint and then clear coating it. It would look okay if you didn't compare one that had the original finish matched up next to it. Do you have any pictures to show if yours turned out any different? http://www.geocities.com/jims64gto

Only viable option that I know for a nice car is to send it out to Mr G's. You must have a good core so they can turn it around quickly. Otherwise they have to repair your core, and it takes a long time.
I sent my core in with my cc information. 10 days later, I had the bezel back, it had been chromed, and the housing was painted black, and the pods were painted the dark blue-green. Total cost including shipping both ways was less than $150. This was for a 64 GTO bezel. Right now, I'm trying to get a '64 bezel with a/c done, but I don't have a good core, so I might have to cut a non a/c piece. |

Lil64GTO: Unfortunately I sold the bezel and don't have any pics of it. Normally I think the chrome paint looks awful...and it does look awful on most things you try to put it on. In fact, it usually looks so crummy that it's laughable. But I tried it on an old broken bezel that I had before trying it on a good one and it looked pretty good. I guess it's because it's mostly in a small area and one that is usually viewed indirectly. I would not advocate using it for a show car.

There's a pretty good one on Ebay right now, don't know if the color will match your car, but it may be worth checking out.

I used CV Vacuum Platers for my dash bezel. Phone number is 604-820-9571. That is a Canadian number, but he has a Washington state shipping address. The process requires some specialized equipment and expertise, so there are only about 3 companies that I found could do the job. He did a good job at a reasonable price with a very quick turn around time (just a couple of weeks). Here's their webb site: http://www.cvvacuumplaters.com/
He also paints the front of the bezel where it should be painted. Be sure and remove and keep the plastic lenses and tubes prior to shipping to anyone. |
