I'm going to use a Torker 1 this year and am wondering if this is to much intake for my combo (see below). I haven't heard anything good about this intake other than it's good for nothing. Is it that the runners and plenum area are to large?

I was going to gasket match the intake to the head, but I was thinking that if I leave it somewhat smaller, (about 1/16" smaller than the runners in the head). I thought that this would keep the flow up a bit. Any thoughts?

You should only have one "pinch point", or venturi, in your induction system (intake and head). Your intake to head flange point isn't it. Get them as close size wise as you can.

Only way to know what will work for your specific combination is to try it, or find someone that has the exact same combo that already has.

Thanks Bruce, I had planned on gasket matching, but read somewhere that the Torker had too big a runner cross sectional area as well as plenum area. Also read where there is a different line of thinking with respect to nt gasket matching, although they didn't give the reasoning behind it. I used it last year for a time, but had also changed cam timing at the same time. I lost about .4 in the quarter.

I didn't have time to work on tuning as this was the end of the season. So I don't know if it was the Torker, cam change, or both, or if I could have tuned the .4 back.

It all depends on your cam and heads as far as cross section goes. How much velocity can they build in a certain space. Combination specific.

I usually wouldn't say port match something, but at least get it closer.

One change at a time, brother!

See signature for Torker I performance. Most relevant is 12.00 @ 112MPH seems to match your 12.12ET

Runners were-high-port matched to high ported 48 head. Frontal Carb flange area was oened up to allow nearly a direct Primary downflow into Runners 1 & 2.

HIS, my 12.12 was done with my stock 74 intake. I'm going to do some testing with both of them this year. Both will have divorced water cross overs and heat cross overs removed, so it will be easy to switch.

I was toying with the idea of adding a devider to the Torker and make it more like dual plane. Ever hear of anyone doing this?

I thought I read somewhere here that the flow should be from a smaller port to a slightly larger port. The intake port of the intake manifold should be slightly smaller than the intake port of the head and that the exhaust port of the head should be slightly smaller than the exhaust port of the header. I believe the reason behind it was to reduce reverse flow. I always assumed that the gasket would be matched to the larger ports. Correct me if I'm wrong cause I'm still putting my new motor together and that's the therory I've been going with. alan

I match the roof and the common wall as closely as possible. The floor and the pushrod side can be left alittle smaller.
