I was looking for a few things to do that would bring another 20 -30 HP to the rear wheels. Car is in the low 12's now 114-115 mph. I was thinking about a underdrive pulley for the crank slow things about 25%, I was also thinking about a Aluminum drive shaft and a Electric fan to loose the clutch fan and the noise and drag when revving the engine. Maybe even one of those electric water pumps but those worry me on the street. Another thing Ive wondered about is NOS but how long does a bottle last at the strip ? running 100-150 hp ? It cost about 50 bucks per 10 lbs here to fill a bottle I'm told.

Thanks

Automatic car? Is the converter optimized for your combination? Quite often the best money spent is a custom converter made specific for your car.

A 10lb bottle will last about 4 -5 runs, cheap HP it's not.
Some cheap tuning tricks- electric fan, electrically driven water pump, carb spacer, cold air feed to airfilter, cold thermostat, spray cold water on inlet manifold before a run, tighten up valve lash on solid lifter cams, adjustable header collector extensions, advance cam, blocked heat risers, any more?

I am running a manual trans and the car has stock Eheads and a Street Dom intake with a Plain old Hydralic cam . I plan to try jetting and Timing. I got a 1" spacer on the intake now the heat crossovers are plugged in the heads. Have 3 " exhuast with crossovers and Hooker SC headers. I think the car would be better with 3.73 gears vs the 3.42 but thats not in the budget this year. Best 60 ft has been 1.77 and it ran 11.9@115 that run. Goals are low 11's
and traps in the 118-121mph range. The car weighs about 3700 lbs or 3920 with me in it and thats a bad thing I know. I just purchase some slicks for next year so traction should be better next season going from the drag radials.

so the electric fan is a good idea and the water pump but how do they hold up ??Will I need to redo my brackets for the power steering and the alternator after doign away with the water pump pulley ? What about the underdrive pulleys or maybe a surpentine from Rodney Red ? How about the aluminum driveshaft ? I don't think nos is happening at 10 bucks a pass !!!

Thanks !!!

well I'm hoping I find that 20-30 in the slicks nect year !! The car bogged on that run but did hook I just did not have the R's up high enough. I got a 1.71 the next run but missed 2nd gear and ran a 12.35@113
Ive only made about 4 good passes with it at the track so I am hoping tuning will bring some more HP to the surface but I fear I may have hit it pretty close out of the box and will need to find power else where to pick up that .6 - .7 in et !!!!

what is your compression now? Can you go up a point or so since this is a track car?

Use a crank scraper and a thinner synthetic oil

stiffer pushrods and aluminum roller rockers

eliminate any hot air getting to carb inlets

electric fan as mentioned

aluminum radiator

car sounds a bit heavy for aluminum driveshaft

replace rear drums with aluminum ones

loose as much weight as possible...you and the car.

those are the relatively cheap ways anyway.

Around a 1-5% gain in one point increase depending on cam specs. More importantly with raising static compression is being able to use a longer duration cam more effectivly.

This is a street strip and heavy on the street side car. I have about 10 to 1 compression now . I don't want to pull the engine or make internal changes yet. It has only seen the track three times so far and tuning is still just in the ball park I'm sure. I am looking at bolt on stuff that should add bottem line hp that I can add this winter. Why do you think the car is too heavy for a aluminum Drive shaft ??

With E heads and 10 to 1 cr and a plain old hyd. cam you could run more cam. However with only 3 or 4 runs concintrate on your tune up.That would be the cheapest route.
