What’s involved in adding in dash tach ?
Doing the rally conversion and like to also imitate the bulky aftermarket tach.

Yeah, I need to swap my inoperative in-dash tach for a clock I purchased after installing a hood tach.. Been putting it off because I don't think it can be done without removing the instrument panel. I've done that a couple of times and it's not something I'm looking forward to doing again..
Of course, mine is a '68... completely different dash if you're dealing with a '69.

It was pretty easy...just plug & play basically. We were able to install it without removing the radio or heater controls, but it is a tight fit, so plan accordingly. This is an older reproduction in-dash tach that fortunately did work (reads about 5% high throughout the rev range). It used the same connections (2) as the filler plate and connect the wiring as per the instructions. The original owner installed an aftermarket tach in the right-hand pod that the repro tach replaced.

I think your definition of easy may be different than mine - that's impressive! I think I have a bad connection to the dash speaker(s) and have been dreading trying to reach up there. I'm afraid if I lay on the floorboard I will never get back up. Where doesn't it hurt?

Well, with all the work we've been doing to the car, it was pretty easy...comparatively...lol. Also, it doesn't have AC, which opens up the under-dash immensely! Dan and I can relate to the increased length of time it takes to crawl out from underneath the dash these days...not to mention the aches and pains that come with it.

Cammer, what's a 'cap'? Never heard of it...but, I'm not really knowledgeable with gauges and other gadgets electrical.

Just make sure it's not a Flux Capacitor...you could wind up in 1982.

Padgett still had his tach repair side business when we first met. I recall him marking the circuit board with a track of pencil graphite to calibrate a hood tach. He said they all read high from the factory.
