WTB - Edelbrock SP2P 3420
Some of you may have seen the intake manifold test I did awhile back, on my mild 455.
I'm hoping to repeat the test with some other intakes later this year. For giggles, I'd love to throw an SP2P into the mix, just to see how bad it really is. Anyone have one they will sell for a reasonable amount? I'll pay for shipping I already have a P4B, Performer, and Performer RPM that I plan to test. The test will be with a square-bore EFI system. If anyone has a factory intake they've modified to accept a square-bore, then I'm willing to pay shipping costs to try it out.

WOW! I've had one legit response, and a surprising amount of scammers!
I've arranged to borrow one (thank you Jeff!), if I do not find one that I can buy outright.

Lee just use an adapter on a factory intake. When i did to use a Demon 850 on mine it picked up at the track over a well worked Qjet even with the adapter.
Got a Warrior TR and a pair of 660 Holleys to try

LOL! I need to keep my efi throttle body on it Skip, to keep the testing "fair". Same reason that I don't want to use an adapter, that adds an extra variable to the testing.
I'm more curious to see how bad an SP2P actually performs, though!

I'd just add here- If you are going to do a comparison with a sp2p, do not compare hp, etc. It was made and advertised to increase low end torque and to help mileage. So, compare mileage with other intakes, etc. that would be the proper way to do it.
There were at least 2 Pontiac alum aftermarket intakes made to increase torque and help mileage ( not increase HP ). The other is the offy dual port. I have one of each and currently using the sp2p on my c30 1 ton 4wd dually with 455pont/truck 4 spd and I like the low end torque it gives. Planning to use the offy dual port on a 389 in one of my 61 Catalinas. Horsepower and ETS are not everyones goals when building/using a Pontiac. I now have well over 1,100,000 miles on Pontiac engines and more each day. These are great engines.

A little SP2P story. Way back in High School, 1982 Hot Rods and street racing were big. One of the fastest street cars around here was a 1970 W30 Olds 442. It had a big Offy tunnel ram with some 660 center squirters, 13-1 pistons with giant rear tires sticking out of the rear fenders. All jacked up as was the 70s style.
Fast car back then. Only rides that stood up to him was a Hemi Cuda( but the 442 beat him) LS6 Chevelle and a 440 Challenger with two fours, aluminum rods ect, GS 455 Buick. Good times they were. Well I was a Pontiac guy and my 69 GTO with its 350 HP 400 did not stand a chance. BUT, there was a kid who built a 69 Firebird with a 455 out of a station wagon to compete with the 442. So I asked him to pop the hood and show us what he had for the big bad 442. It was my first look at the Pontiac SP2P. He had a 850 DP on top and some 3 tube headers. Just looking at the intake I knew enough to tell him he did not have a chance. He did not like it and went on to get badly embarrassed in one of our fantastic High School lunch time drag races. BTW, I did use a SP2P on a 360 Ford pickup with good results but those things needed all the help they could get. |

I know absolutely nothing about the intake or the individual selling it. I just happened to see your post and later ran across this ad. Hope it helps!

Thanks guys! But I'm willing to pay $25, maybe $50 tops, plus shipping for one of these. I plan to test it, see & document how pathetic it actually is, and then it will become wall art in my shop. MAYBE drive it around for a hundred miles, like Steve alluded to, and see if it actually changes the MPGs of the car (I doubt it).
Heck, I've got several factory pre-EGR intakes, I'd be willing to trade one.

I also swapped in a 252 High Energy comp cams at the same time, I can't say for sure if the intake, or the cam was the loser, but for a $250 investment in both parts I wasn't happy. I never used the intake again, I can't even remember where it ended up. I know i don't own it any longer though. I'd never buy another one under any circumstances either. |
