Default 12 volts to hei 69 lemans

Do i remove the black (pink stripe)wire and use the same spot to connect the new 12g wire to the bulk head? There is no other wire to the "R" terminal on starter and after changing out the wire that would give it 12 volts going through the new thicker wire? thank you

Yes. Replace the black pink wire that used to go to the coil +. And once you do that, you will no longer need any wire that may have come from the solenoid R terminal.

Odd... I didn't think they did the R terminal thing on A bodies to bypass the resistor wire. I thought it was an F body thing. I thought the A bodies used a wire from the IGN2 terminal on the ignition switch (which I would imagine ran through the bulkhead connector). I've only owned F cars, tho.

Thanks for the reply, i am going to search for that Resistor wire IGN2 terminal and if possibble to replace it with a regular wire if thats the best way to connect it. Is it one of the wires? if the pictures uploads.

Replace or bypass the resistor wire with a 14 gauge copper stranded wire or another way to do it is to jump the IGN1 and IGN2 together under the dash near the ignition switch.

Either way will provide full battery voltage during crank and run for the HEI.

George

This is the way I have had mine hooked up for years. No problems.

I think my 70 ignition wirling is the same. I spliced into the solid pink wire and ran it to the HEI. You can check if you have a meter and see if it gives you 12v with the key on.
