Solid Roller went flat
Noticed a slight miss, checked the valve lash, #3 exh had opened up from .020 to about .070.
Roughly 10k miles on engine, street driven. Bullet solid roller 284/295, .3883 lobes. Crower solid lifters, crower 1.65 enduro rockers. 340cfm edelbrocks. Spring pressure is 225-235 seat, 550ish @ .650 lift, (I’m at .620 lift). Kind of bummed. Guess I’ll send the cam to bullet and have it repaired. Lobe is not grooved, but shows fretting. Not sure if I’ll replace that one pair of lifters or buy a new set. Does Isky still make solid roller lifters?

Bet bearing went out in the lifter and allowed the lifter to kiss the lobe.Ask me how I know!

Yes Isky dose, I’m running Isky solid lifters. Over 30 dyno pulls and many passes and allot of street stuff..Hate to say it but you won’t be first that had a Bullet cam go south. Of course don’t know what your issue is or was.

My 7.99 chevy friend says at 5k street miles they throw the lifters away.

By looks of that lube, I don’t think so.. what really matters is he caught it before it did some serious damage. Like taking the lifter bore out. I’m not physically there to see it all.

Damn, that could get expensive 😆 I’m thinking like Tom, that the lifter bearing went first. Don’t all cam makers get their cam cores from the same company? The spring pressures I mentioned in post #1, does that sound about right?,

Ok it’s typical for the exhaust lobe to go first, because of the exhaust pressure vs intake. There’s different signs to look for, which is the tell tail of why it failed. Looking at that lobe, but not seeing the intake side or exhaust side of the lobe. But by looks of the lobe, one thing that will cause that, is coil bind. I doubt thats the case for you. Coil bind has the lobe hammering lifter wheel and causes it to take out lifter bearing. Now if the lobe were is on the intake side vs closing side thats different issue.

Sorry I mean opening side and closing side of the lobe.

Do yourself a favor before it all goes back together, and check for coil bind as well as check that valve spring seat and open pressure. Not saying thats the cause, but just for piece of mind.

As far as spring pressure seat and open..Any can company worth his salt, will tell you what the seat and open pressure should be.

Guys,I had the same thing happen with Isky solid roller and a Comp cam.I was lucky and caught it just as the side that supports the roller kissed the cam.I sent them back and had all of them rebuilt.Did not have to pull the cam as where the wheel rode had no damage.I had thousands of street miles with 200 on the seats and 600 open.Tom

Perhaps regrind all the Exhaust lobes to the worn Lobe's final size, then run 1.5 EXH rockers for what might be no loss of HP across the range.
No loss of HP might be the result. |

The real question is did it wear though the heat treating.
