G. Rossington being the last of their original lineup.

20 Oct 1977 Plane crash Got the Lead singer R.V. Zant, and the backing vocal gal Cassie Gaines, and Steve Gaines, and officially ended the Band's run.

The outstanding guitarist Allen Collins died later on in 1986.

I've played every 70-77 album last year, and they all play through surprisingly well.

He was also the only guy to walk away from the plane crash right? What a band I dont think there will ever be another like Lynyrd Skynyrd.

No. Artimus Pyle, Billy Powell and a couple of other did. Pyle walked a half mile to a nearby farm house to call for help.

Gary was all kinds of injured. Broken legs, arms, pelvis and more.
Pyle is still alive, he must not have been a founding member.

This here in 1976 is my favorite live; shows Allan Collins rip into a hopping jam (6.50). This concert captures the time, the outdoor audience, the Band's live energy, and the backing vocals charm.

This captures Allen Collins efforts as a capable lead, and out front. 2-links due to possibly 2-diff camera angles. Hey, looks like some hyperlink voodoo happened and made my 2-links same, and same as the prior Post. Nuff of that.

I went to a Rossington-Collins concert after the plane crash. They put Ronnie's hat on a mic stand and did a Free bird instrumental. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. I also owned all of their music on 8-track tapes...wish I still did!

Saw them all alive in Greensboro NC , May 1977.
Nazareth was the opening band.

Skynyrd did 3 encores that night.
Very enthusiastic crowd
Anytime VanZant pointed the mic to the crowd , Everybody sang.
The whole band seemed to be having a really great time.
Billy Powell was on fire with that piano and unforgettable.

5 months later , the news was just unbelievable.

Gary Rossington said they really were , really good.
I agree
