Default 64 Trunk latch

Getting ready to spray misc. pieces right now with final paint, but not sure on the striker for the trunk latch (the part that bolt to the body). Is it supposed to be body color or cad plated? I've seen it both ways but it seems to me the paint would chip off when closing the trunk. Appreciate any insight before we spray.

Thanks! We painted it, figuring we could always blast it again.

I have three 64s still here . They are still in what's left of the factory paint and I know they've never been painted I bought one from the original owner . The latches were in the deck lid and would have paint on them. I just checked the three cars and there is body color on the strikers . Note 64's never had trunk paint the trunk was body color.

dld, your pix also confused me until I realized they were '65s.

Assuming 65Mark intended to ask about a '64 striker, then ditto 3 Deuce, the entire '64 trunk cavity was painted body color, unlike the '65.

But seems like we are all in agreement, the striker should be painted body color. But not just part of it as may have been in '65, but all of it in '64 along with the rest of the trunk interior.

I also agree that the '64 latch should have body color paint on it though I cannot say from looking at mine exactly how "well" painted it may have been originally. My car was originally Pinehurst Green but repainted and sometimes it is difficult for me to discern the original color on a plated metal piece like the latch where the repaint color has chipped off.

Thanks everyone. We did paint the trunk body color (what a PITA). The striker is now body color. Strange the latch is painted but if that's kosher we'll do it. I'm assuming the body was painted after the trunk was installed with latch and striker in place then. Not the way I would have done it, but I don't have to produce thousands of the a day either.

Here's a couple shots from a while ago....

OK, one more (maybe) quick question seeing as how I have your attention....

The bracket that holds the gas tank filler neck grommet, body color or?
The one that has 2 bolt holes and the big hole for the filler neck to go through. 64 car.

ditto

just an informational note when I have pulled original deck lids where the hinge bolts to the trunk lid the hinge is bare metal and the area under the hinge on the trunk lid is bare metal which means the deck lid was bolted on the hinge and painted on the car no prep work or primer done before

Interesting. I figured if the latch and strike was painted the deck lid had to be in place. We just painted the inside of this one off the car. I don't like the idea of no paint under the hinge. I'm not a silver car guy but, Silvermist gray looks pretty good. I can't wait to get all these pieces and parts out of the way so we can get the body sprayed.
