Default Dudes Car and Grill

I posted this in one of the project threads but thought y’all would really like our ‘extra seating area’.

We had a 30 yr old deck that needed to be taken out along with a hot tub that hadn’t worked 5 years. No better time to take it out right!!

Our backyard had always looked like crap thanks to all the big trees but figured it was time to get creative.

Halfway through my daughter decided that we should build a bar for my neighbors and I since they were all shut down. She’s quite the creative 12 yr old....

This is tearing the deck out- what is left is a monster of an old hot tub

Then we cut up the hot tub and built the bar with the existing roof.

What you are seeing is the originalhood you our K5 as the bar, a 64 El Camino hood as a beer shelf and a few other fun parts.

Since I was called ‘Dude’ in college (I was one half of the ‘two dudes with the Trans ams’) she wanted to call it Dudes Car and Grill

We needed a chalk board- because she wanted something to write all over.

A friend had a rusted through flat 68 Chevrolet hood so it became our chalk board

Finally- she felt that we were allowed 10 people in a gathering we should have more seating.

After trying to figure out how to have a Trans Am hood fold up from the fence- we realized it would just be too high. We decided to make a table out of it on wheels (actually a large trash can cut in half) so we could move it around. The table was all her idea because she wanted to have a beer bucket in the middle of it. As you can see it cane out great and matches the theme!

Now we have a fun place to chill outside, grille, watch football, etc.

I bought a Roku sound bar for it and I highly suggest it. It connects to your WiFi and even with a 10 yr old TV I am able to stream xfinity, SiriusXM, Netflix, Disney+ etc. well worth $120.

Anyway- fun project with my Daughter Danica and I simply could not have done it without her. I’m just not as creative!

That hubcap actually came on my 60 wagon when I bought it- I think they are aftermarket from Moon or So Cal speed shop etc....

Still more work to do- but only as we fund cool pieces. I want a tailgate to mount as a bench and my daughter really wants to mount an actual door as you walk in. I figured a Square body Chevy door will work. Too bad I threw away the originals to our K5!

Valve covers will be mounted along the sides as cup holders, hold limes, food, etc. I figure if I am grilling I can just line it with aluminum foil and throw hot dogs and stuff in them

Yes, we are HUGE Texan fans- even though we have a habit of making terrible off season moves....

This fridge was in the kids play too before and those came with the JJWatt fathead we hung up

I love it! I thought I had a pretty cool grilling station but that one is tops But, why would a 12 y.o. want or even think about a beer bucket
I was at a Houston game (rooting for the visitor) for the innaugural season, beautiful stadium.

Initially she wanted a cooler in the middle, but with the odd shape it was much easier to beat up the metal pan....

Sometimes when we go out with friends we will get buckets of beer so she is well aware...

We have a great stadium, and hopefully it was very accommodating when you came. I’ve taken several customers to games and they all love the tailgate area. When I brought some Indy fans they were blown away at the outdoor activities and how welcoming our fans were. My wife and went to a Indy game and we could never find a good tailgate area.

This is very cool! Nice to re-purpose old junk instead of tearing it all down...

Yea- it wasn’t too bad financially. I think all in we spent about 500 on the bar and probably 600 on the backyard (trees, 3 pallets of sod, flowers, mulch, etc).

Really the best part was my daughters excitement and her learning how to use a screw gun, driver, level, etc.

Yes, we had a great time at the game, fans were great and Houston was fun. We were on motorcycles and spent a few days in the area and around the hill country. Sorry to say that Tennessee has seem to have had the best fans I have come across (at one time I travelled to quite a few out of town games).

Congrats to your daughter. Please tell her that it was a nice touch with that —Corona— beer! Enjoy!

Thanks y’all- she kept laughing about that. She used to call it dinosaur beer when she was really young.... could never figure it out until we were at a Mexican restaurant that had the corona label as the table and she pointed to a damn dinosaur in the label! Been drinking this for 15 years and never noticed it!!
