Do you think you could make a tri bar spinner to fit the Pontiac wire wheel cover of 1967 - 1970? and just a FYI the 67-70 Pontiac cover is the same as Oldsmobile. The only difference is the center badge. Also your spinner might fit the rally 2 Olds steel mag wheel ( increase your marketing base).

You must of been reading my mind and I've researched that option as well. Part of the problem is being able to get the lug nuts off the wheel without creating a custom tire iron- which I've thought of, but at that point, just shoot me in the head. Was looking into a spring retention system with spring steel so that you can just yank the center cap off, but then you have the concerns of throwing the center cap off the wheel at high speeds. Pretty much the reason why the government banned spinner caps in 1963 I believe was the year of said ban. I'm sure a few people either were injured, sued or even killed from these wheel accessories.

With that said, I've had to over engineer the hub for safety reasons for those near the car on the street, as well as stopping the center cap from turning into a grenade. Centrifugal force with mass and vibration makes a bad party favor for all.

I have come up with a unique design for one option and is currently in development. As far as creating a market for my private wheel art - I don't think that's gonna happen, but I will have extras once I weed out what I want to keep. I always make more then I need for the simple fact that it's cheaper to do things in groups, but at this point, nothing is cheap with this venture....

So late last night - I started some of the final assembly on the center caps. Realizing that once you start to tighten down the three screws on the backing plate, the red medallion tightens up as designed, but with the desire to clock the PMD logo in a certain orientation within the spinner, I devised a simple, yet effective way to rotate the jewel with no fuss. I've acquired a suction cup device from a lighting store that's used to replace halogen bulbs. This way you avoid having to use screw drivers or a pick to muster the thing into place and assemble at the same time. It would be somewhat frustrating for sure without it. With the neoprene rubber spacing block in the back, it acts like the Rally II metal mount but far better because not only will it hold the medallion in place, it prevents rattling and vibration.

I like them all, but the lower rt which reminds me of the full size 1963 spinner knock off wheel cover I like the best. BTW the 63 knock off full wheel cover is getting very hard to find.
The last Pontiac/Olds with the knock off wire wheel cover was 1967 , beginning in 1967 the change is taking place to get rid of the projectiles which is the one I posted earlier.

1963 full size Pontiac;

64 Catalina in image, but this wire wheel cover was available in 1963-64 on full size cars for a 14"wheel and in a 15" wheel in 63 only for tempest. The wheel cover was also used from 1964 -1966 in all Tempest and GTO in a 14";

How about taking a 68-69 tempest/ Lemans deluxe wheel cover and adding a spinner to it;

When you add it up, plus all the ones from the other divisions there is quite a lot of them!

Yes, I've researched the death out of what will work and what won't. Part of the problem is finding the center cap medallions. There's really no point in doing a sweet job on a project and in the end have old beat up, faded medallions. It's a blessing to have Trim Parts around. Not all the wheels or hub caps you've shown us are useable. Some one the pot metal that was used on especially two version are truly garbage and have not stood the test of time. It's tough to find a decent single spinner let alone 4 unless you have a blank check and a lot of time on your hands.

Here's another one of my new creations that has been growing on me that is not brand specific. Works really well with the Foresight wheels in my opinion and just says muscle car.

Would work with a 1966 Mustang Fastback to no end~!

I know you can get the 63-66 Pontiac medallion ( center stick on, Pontiac image with racing flag) for the wire wheel cover, you can also get the center piece Lucite for those 68-70 deluxe wheel covers I posted and they are in the Ames catalogue.
Rocket emblem that goes in the center cap for Olds super stock rims is available too.

Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of other smaller options to look into and adaptations that can be made. I guess my point is that I've always wanted something different to satisfy the Pontiac itch. In a way, I'm paying homage to a bunch of other engineers by reinventing an already beautiful design by blending themes to create a new one.

I have an idea to get around the lug nut issue, What if you machined a groove in that tall center piece (that goes through the rim) on the back side of the wheel and used a snap ring to hold it in place in the backside of the center of the rim, allowing it to rotate freely (yet snug) so that it could be turned to access the lug nuts.

Snap ring option sounds interesting but a bit more complicated and may as well would be dangerous. Again the bomb factor if it flies off. It took a fair amount of brainpower amongst a few gentleman and myself in order to get where we are at now. The best designs are simple yet easy to perform maintenance on. Fighting a snap ring doesn't sound like a Saturday afternoon fun event.

I addressed this issue in 1991. Hurst tri-bar center caps have this exact issue. Very simple... just loosen the attaching bolts to the backing plate just enough to rotate the center cap to expose each wheel lug nut.

Thanks Royal for the insight. Unfortunately that can't happen with the design I have since it's roll pinned located for security reasons. You can't even get to the hex bolt from the back if the lug nuts and wheels are attached to the car. There's a sequence of events that have to transpire for many reasons with my design. The primary reasoning is to not kill people driving down the street.

Are you actually able to make medallions or do you just get them from Trim Parts? I wish I could have some medallions made. Thanks.

Kind of want to take a survey from you guys which wheel combination works best with this particular center cap. Solid spoke vs. Cut out.

thanks

I prefer the top wheel but do not like the 67-70 wire wheel cover center...just too lame. If you could get (which are available ) the center piece Pontiac stick on emblem that has Pontiac with checkered flags that is used on 1963-1966 wire wheel covers that would work;

The center section on this wheel cover doesn't look good;

I prefer the solid spoke.
