69 fbrd auto trans and factory air (blows hot but not serviced)....put in new heater control valve and after starting and runing the heater to check it out, shut off the car and heard a hissing sound from somewhere around the A/C. Hisses for about 20 seconds getting quieter then nothing. Only does it when / after in the heater mode. Any thoughts about this anomoly?

maybe it's freon moving thru the poa valve? does the system have any pressure at all left in it? mike

definitely no freon in the system...blew hot when I bought it but it does work.....the A/C system was disassembled/removed and reinstalled after engine and compartment detailing...I plan to have the A/C gone over by a very good local expert (promises not to scratch new paint). It's weird though because seems like it only did it after new heater valve installed.

if no freon then it may be vacuum bleeding off from the control valve, i assume it's vacuum operated. mike

I agree, hissing is almost 99% of the time a vacuum leak somewhere.

Buy a hand held vacuum pump. One of the most useful tools you can have especially when you are trying to trace a manifold leak or an A/C fault.
I'd put it in the same league as a magnetic wand. Never thought how much I'd use it, till I finally got one.

Yeup, reminds me of the hissing sound my A/C GTO made in the condenser (cold aluminum thing) inside the fiberglass housing. Some prior owner found it necessary to punchture the 'glass cover with the engine and vented the condenser.
Well, my solution was to install a fully charge Big car system....that was fun, particularly through the Rad support. Can anybody relate to removing a fully charged A.C system from a 60's car? I know one other person can. H.I. Stud
