Does anyone have a '68 Firebird Conv that still has the original Front Dampner (cocktail shaker) mounting brackets ?
As many know, this piece usually rusts away.
I'm working on possibly having a batch of these made (same RH/LH). If I can borrow/buy a nice original, I can have it duplicated.

Please e-mail me if you have this or are interested in this project.

Thanks,

I do, but sorry, I'm not taking them out. BUT, when I was young and foolish, I took my rear dampeners out and trashed them because I needed the trunk space. When I decided I wanted to put them back in, it took me a long time to find a pair. The main reason I'm responding is, a pair that I took out of a 67 firebird had different mounting locations. They would not fit my 68. So, I'm not sure if 67-69 fronts are all the same or not.???

Where are these front dampeners located? I know where the back ones are but not the front.

The front "cocktail shakers" are mounted up at the front of the inner fenders.

As mentioned, there are several different styles. PY member Charlie Huntington had pics of several on his website. Charlie can you sound off on this?

From what I've found out '67 & 68 & 69 bird front "shakers" are all different, mainly due to bracketry. '67-68 Bird rear should be the same. '69 Bird rears are all by thereselves. Furthermore, many Camaro "shakers" are different than Birds.

My dillemna...Wife has '68 400 4 spd convert longterm project waiting in the wings... am still missing front '68 front "shakers". Would love to see a definative parts listing & pictorals on all the "shakers" so I could sell off extra's I have, & pickup the ones needed to get this car back on the road. THANKS.

Roy,

With a flashlight you can see the dampner forward and outboard of the battery on the RH side. The LH is easier too see and is forward and outboard of the w/s washer jar.

The lower bracket utilizies the fender extension bolts and I don't remember where the upper mounts.

I do remember that the pointed upper aft corner almost got me 15 years ago when I removed the fender and didn't realize there was a 20+ pound weight up front Talk about unbalanced!
