TKX from Silver Sport
I just ordered a perfect-fit TKX kit for my 69 GTO. They say I should be getting the transmission by the end of May.
I guess I'm going to have to dial in the bellhousing now. I have a question about the Browell Tool. How do you tell the far off-center you are if you have a no-go situation? Do you use a feeler gage? And while I'm at it, does anyone have a Browell Tool that they would like to rent out? Thanks! |

Start with the parallel measurement once dialed in then move on to the radial run out keeping track of the shims and locations between the bellhousing and the block. If I had to do it all over again I'd just use the dial indicator. The Browell tool is great if your not concerned with the parallel measurement of the bellhousing face, It must be an issue if they mention it or maybe a CYA type thing for warranty.

What TB1 said...use a dial indicator and check for parallel first then concentricity...no need for that other tool.

I have done a few Tremics now and have not had to do anything when using a stock bellhousing.The first one we used a after market and it needed some tweaking.FWIW,Tom

Yup looking very nice. should be an easy install and make a whole different driving vehicle. Mine is night and day difference.

1967 GTO, 467 roller motor, e heads ported, tremec T56 magnum 6 speed and 9" done. EZ EFI 2.0 with FAST dual sync distributor and separate nitrous system done. Track is at 4300 ft elevation. so far a best of 11.95@116. Suspension now getting dialed in...tubular front a arms with dual adjustable coil overs HR Parts n stuff rear bar and whole car lowered 3 inches.. |

My Quick Time needed offset dowels. I used RobbMc.

So, when I measured the bellhousing runout, I came up with .014". I ordered the offset dowels from Robb McC.
I don't know how many of you have removed the dowel pins with the engine in the car, but let me tell you this was a complete pain in the a$$! No room to drill the pins and tap because of the floor/ trans tunnel. I ended up running a 5/8" die (hexagonal exterior shape) on the pins and threading them. I used the hexagonal shape because I could turn this with a socket and ratchet. After threading the pins, I used a stack of flat washers against the block and screwed a nut on the pins. This successfully pulled the pins from the block. Now to re-measure with my offset dowels. Then on to actual install of the transmission. |

Contact JODY TRANSMISSION to get parallel aligning shims for $79 - he will even refund you if you don't need them. But a must to check and likely needed. And ditch that Browell alignment tool.
I tried getting dowel pins last week from RobbMc but he is out. Jody has them in stock and doesn't charge $20 extra for a set like other shops. And Jody is the most knowledgeable and helpful transmission guy around. Jody's Transmission (610) 413-8015 jodystransmissions@verizon.net |

Pilot bearing problem.
When I remove the pressure plate, I was able to pull the pilot bearing out with my finger. The new pilot bearing, # 7109, is the same way. Is there any way to tighten the bearing in the bore? I have heard of using a punch in a few spots on the side of the bore. I have also heard of having the bearing knurled. What would you guys do? By the way, when I last installed a new clutch in the car, I did not notice the pilot bearing being a problem, but that was a few years ago and my memory ain't what it used to be. On the bright side, my runout is .001! Thanks in Advance! |

If you're using the bronze bushing you can get one with a larger outside diameter and have it turned down to whatever size you need.

There are larger OD needle bearing style pilot bushings out there for Pontiac and other applications.
I wouldn't recommend using the typical bronze bushing with the Tremec trans. It uses a tapered input bearing that requires precise location of the input and is not very forgiving, which is why dialing in the bellhousing is so important with these transmissions. Muncie just uses a regular ball bearing for input support so it's not critical. |
