Default Oil dripping

Have my 461 per the signature bellow. Used a bop seal and thought I installed it correctly. I have about 500 miles on engine, just test and tune driving. Had a drip shortly after initial start up between engine and m21 tranny. It has been sitting all winter without starting and it is still dripping.
Can I use the fact that it is leaking without running to confirm or eliminate pan gasket ( one piece) rear main, counter shaft on tranny?
I didn't realize that oil was all the way up to crank while sitting?
Just don't want to pull it, although probably will have to

Advise or suggestion?
Steve

My guess would be more along the lines of the rear oil pan gasket where it goes around the main cap. This would be the lowest point and seen many leak there.

Thanks for replys so far. My thought it to add dye to either trans or engine first to see if I can isolate it. As for valve covers. Is there any oil in the top at all considering it hasnt run in weeks?
Thanx
Steve

Do you have any oil drips hanging on the bell housing or trans? Try to smell it to determine if gear lube. My trans had a slight drip from the pressed-in counter shaft in front of trans. It would leave a drop or two hanging from the transmission.

It defiantly seems to gather more on the transmission side of the equation but pan does have some as well.

So, is it leaking gear oil or is it leaking engine oil?

That's an excelent question. It's hard for me to tell. Dosnt have the stink of say a rear end lube, not sure how to readily tell the difference from a small drip or cardboard stain. Still investigating if it ever gets above freezing around here.
Thanx
Steve

definitely get the dye and run it
will help, at least for me it did
i had a leak in a similar area and thought it was from the timing cover install i did
turns out it was the VC breather slightly leaking and trailing all the way down to the trans/oil pan area
what a PITA that was
