Default 2016 Pontiac Powered Class Racing

Well, it won't be too long 'til the class racing cranks back up. I was just lookin at some of the NHRA specs for popular Pontiac engines. One that has been competitive is the '77 350. It has been factored at 250hp for a while.

But, for this year, they added 4hp, if it's in a Bird. That may not seem like much. But it means the car will have to be heavier, to run the minimum weight for it's class.

http://classracerinfo.com/EngineSpec...3&MAKE=Pontiac

Anyhow, good luck to all who will be racing Pontiac powered cars this season. We had some big wins last season. Hope for more this season !

Unfortunately, Bill Edgeworth passed away towards the end of last season.

His '77 Bird was a National record holder. Ryan Warter drove it at a race, and was trying to help sell it, if I have my facts straight. Don't know if it sold or if anybody will be racing it this year. If anybody has more info about this car, or any other class racer news, please post it. Thanks !

Default NHRA on FOX

FOX is supposed to have some live race coverage this year. Don't know if they will show any Sportsman Racing or not.

Default Winternationals

Less than a month now, 'til the Winternationals ! There are several familiar names, on the pre-entry lists, with Pontiac power, in both Stock & Super Stock. Hope they all get off to a good start.

Default Winters Week

Well, it's finally here. It's Winternationals week !

It always seems to remind me of 2 things. The 1st is the line in the GTO song, which starts "Take it out to Pomona...". And the 2nd is the thought of Mickey Thompson's FX Tempest cars, back in '62 & '63.

Default Pomona Qualifying

Looks like they'll have 3 rounds of qualifying in Stock & SS today, at the Winternationals. So, we'll see how many Pontiacs made it to the race.

It should also be mentioned that Kens nephew Dylan, a future Pontiac racer won 2 Ironmans at his first ever race in his Junior at Immokalee

Default Q-1

Here's round 1 of Stock qualifying. Brad Burton and Tommy Brown are #6 & #7.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

And, looks like Leo Glasbrenner has the highest Pontiac on the SS Q-list.

Default Q-2

Lindy Lindholm just moved to the top of the Pontiac Stock heap, with a run which was over a second under his index !

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

Not much change on the Q-2 SS list. Brad Burton is next highest, behind Leo.

Well, 4 Pontiac Stockers survived round 1 of elims--Tommy Brown, Brad Burton, Leo Glasbrenner, & Lindy Lindholm.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

They're supposed to run 2 rounds of Stock & SS by noon, their time.

3 Pontiac Super Stockers survived round 1--Keri Angeles, Leo Glasbrenner, & Art Peterson.

Tommy Brown & Brad Burton are still alive after round 2, of Stock.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

After 2 rounds of SS, there are no Pontiac Super Stockers still in the hunt.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

So, that leaves the 2 Stockers to represent Pontiac Power, at Pomona, on Saturday. Good luck to the Pontiac guys !

Well, Tommy broke out, in round 4. So, all the Pontiacs have bowed out, at Pomona.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop

But, there's a lot of racing ahead, this year. So, we'll have some Pontiac winner's before the year is over.
