Default lifter noise

Hello all, I went from a HR cam to a SR over the winter. Engine ran great, went to TNT last week every thing ran great. Now my problem had a leaking trans pan gasket so I installed new. When I fired up to check and add trans fluid I heard a whining sound coming from the valley pan. If I bring up rpms goes away, but at under 1100 rpms it's back. Should I be concerned? The noise is quite loud.

sure it isn't in the converter/trans area? P/S pump if any?

No, I'm positive the noise is coming from valley pan. I am thinking I have a roller lifter thats bad. Always had HR before and they were quiet. There has only been 5 full passes down the track and dyno time on this engine.

What about the valve lash ? Lash loosening up is an indicator of potential issues.

This from a tech article: With roller lifters, a minor increase of 0.003 to 0.005-inch of lash could be a warning sign that the lifter’s roller bearings are failing.

Yes I'm happy not the engine. This was a continental I had done when I put the 505 pump gas engine together back in 2009. That engine had a HR that I got from Pontiac Dude. This winter I had Kauffman redo my 505, we dicussed my converter he said run it see what it does. Well guess I will have to rebuild or get another. Want to get into the 9's.

Thanks for the phone # I am using a tubo 400. I'm considering my options. Sending the bad continental converter back to repair or going with a different maker.

I've heard good things out of continental, I decided to go with PTC as all of my friends that are running X275 and radial vs world are using PTC or ProTorque and ProTorque was WAY out of my budget so thats when I went with PTC and all my friends keep telling me that I won't be disappointed, I bought a 8" converter as well as a TH400 with trans brake and promod aluminum drum and promod sprag and to be honest I couldn't be happier everything was very nice trans came with nice deep aluminum pan and they dyno test everything to make sure its all properly working... best of luck with whatever ya decided to do..
